Best way to freeze your babies.

Post says it all, Iam sure some people will be unfriendly to the post. Anyhows I just was giving a adult kingsnake, and of course i have a few kinkd babies and non feeders that I rather put to use, but I would like to find the best most ethcial way to put them into a slumber.

Cool them first. Off heat completely for several hours, then an hour or two in the 'fridge. Then to the freezer. Of course, being a king, you could always drop them into the adult's cage, they won't suffer long...
If you can't bring yourself to do that I understand.

This is what I've done. I did try crushing the head of a kinked hatchling before, but found that although I was absolutely sure it was dead, the nerve movements after death were too distressing to see.

Freezing isn't considered humane in professional circles. There was a study done about this several years ago and one of the primary participants, Dr. Adolf Maas, gave me the following response to sum it up when I asked him about the study:

"Cooling does produce torpor, as I stated, but they are not unaware.
EEGs will show that there is still normal brain waves. That's not a coma,
just immobilized. Take a look at the function of a drug called
succinylcholine and the immobilization it produces- normal pain reception, normal brain function, all other sensory function normal, but unable to move and limp. That's why it's now immoral to use for surgery (they used to!)."

This was from an older thread that you could probably still dig up if you wanted to search back in history.

There's no perfect way to kill. I once tried CO2, and it was so distressing I had to stop the process. Cooling, followed by a freeze is still my go-to until I find something better.

I forgot to add, that feeding the defrosted babies to my kingsnake made me a whole lot happier. It meant I felt the babies hadn't gone to waste and seeing his extreme response meant I knew I had a very happy kingsnake. Here's Skeeter

Lovely king; Florida? I agree with the first response, as well as just tossing them to the king.

I would like to point out that you can post an add here or in the paper to sell the babies really cheap. Sometimes an environment change or something we don't understand will make them eat, and some people like to give problem eaters a try. Just another suggestion.
