Auria, my yellow ratsnake has gained weight from 325 grams in Nov '05 to 579 a week ago. I had to medicate her for a severe RI and then a severe stomach inflamation/infection first to achieve this. Since I don't see many pictures of yellow rats around here, I'd like to know if you guys think she needs to gain a little more or is good as she is now? (I assume she is not too heavy). She measures 4,1 feet. I'd like you to vote through the poll and post your comments if you feel like it.

You can allso post pics of your yellows if you have any!

Thanks!

I voted "no", but I'm not suggesting that you try to stop her growth altogether, I just wouldn't be doing anything to actively promote rapid growth. She looks great. I think those are the healthiest-looking photos of her you've ever posted. She looks perfectly proportioned to me. :)

Thanks, I am so proud of her! I always though I'd better retire her from breeding (former owner) cause I never dreamed of her reaching this weight... but maybe I'm gonna arrange the services of a male next year or the year after (no idea of her age, so do not want to wait too long IF I do so).

I fattened her with a weaner or large weaner rat every 6 days, she is back to a small weaner every 7 and maybe every 8 days soon, depending on this poll (and what I want of course).

i can't really give you an answer on the weight issue...........but i can tell you that you have a very nice rat snake. :)

i agree with Dean, feed her reasonable, and if she keeps gaining weight then it would be fine, as long as she doesn not become obecse, but i would not push her.

This was her at lowest weight, about 325 grams, a couple of days after I got her. She had been feeding on 2-3 mice a week for years before this and never fattened... she did breed for 4 years in a row at her previous owner though.... imagine what was going on in her body :puke01:

Sorry if I tell this story too often and annoy you with it, but I still can not get over it.... The previous owner emigrated, but I so much had wanted to show him her progress and rub it in his face.... I'd really liked to see his reaction, proving he had not been a good owner...

I love her face on the second pic, she has such a cute face...
Guys, Auria is such a lovely snake with a lovely temper. When you walk pass her viv, she just looks at what you are doing, awww, bless her....!

I voted for the last option, because, even though she doesn't need it,i don't think it would hurt her to put on a little bit more. I'm glad that she's feeling better!

She is lovely, and I'm sure Mr William Bonney would agree!

Aw.... I'd like to breed a clutch of yellows someday but since they are boring grey at a young age and yellows are not very popular, I think I'd not be able to sell all of them in a reasonable time :shrugs:

I should think the market would be quite small, which is a shame. I find even with my boy's nasty temper his subtle pattern and the gorgeous yellow throat make a nice contrast to the corns (his toungue being black/dark brown looks cool too)

My auria is one of my mellowest snakes and her tong is black too, which is a proof she is a pure yellow rat I heared. She is allso very curious as Vanina told; walk by her viv and on any day, except the first after feeding, she'lll at least watch you from her hide but most of the time even comes out to the glass to see what you are doing, that is SOOOO cute! And when you mess around in her viv, she'll be in your way constantly, trying to see what you are doing!

I like the way mine watches what's going on too! He's far nosier than the corns, seems to be more active during the day too
