So I was hanging out with some friends having a few drinks, and I decide to show them my Western Hognose. I go upstairs to get him out of his viv, and everything is fine. I picked him up and he was pretty calm. Then about 10 seconds later after I put his lid back on his viv I look at him. He was just going away at my palm and I had no idea! Just chewing away I guess trying to grab on. Since he's small, I don't think he was able to even puncture me because I don't see any marks. But I feel so bad, my first reaction was to shake my hand. So the poor thing went flying across the room! Luckily he landed on a pile of my clothes, so he didn't get hurt. I then picked him up with a washcloth and put him back in his viv. My friends heard a few curse words from all that and they figured "that must not be good." And this all happened after I had told them that no, none of my snakes have bitten me. They're all sweet and friendly! Haha.
My housemates hamster is dying, and I held him to look at him. I must've not washed my hands well or something. That's the only reason I can think of for him trying to bite my hand.
 
The First is the Worst. The rest are simply annoying...until you get a boa or a retic...

Wow, Nanci...you're lucky. My daughter has even had to deal with a little striker, already. She handled it much better than I thought she would. She simply said, "Whoa, daddy, this baby is bitey. Will you hold her?"

I thought it was cool...
 
It was my fault, too, I had Choco out on the ground and saw he looked like he was S-ing up, sort of, so I sort of encouraged him! Got what I had coming! Then I picked him up and kissed him so he would know I wasn't afraid of him. How weird.

Last night was a bitey one for lot's of us I guess! My big female Ruby had the most killer feeding response last night. I was feeding her from tongs, watched her suck it down really quick.. Then when she finished her head snapped up real quick and started looking at my hand!! I pulled out of the viv really quick and she struck the door 3 times!

Just out of curiosity Brizzle, did your hand swell up at all?

Nah, he didn't even break the skin. I think I noticed it soon enough. He's just so tiny..he was trying to fit his mouth on my hand. Haha.
I also held another snake before him. Maybe he didn't like that smell and bit me? I don't know. I've always heard Hognoses don't really bite, so I was surprised. He's always hissed at me, but once I pick him up he gets over it.
I've had him for a while but haven't gotten around to posting pictures. Here's a picture of the little guy..

It's much easier getting this guy to eat than the corns! He's seriously a PIG! In capital letters. Haha.
 
wow I guess this is the time of year to get bit! Haha like 3 days ago I got bit for the first time (It was akasha) I was scooping out pee and she got me :] I just started cracking up :]
 
Geez, I even got bit at Daytona, nabbing a flying milksnake that someone couldn't hold on to...(Nope, didin't hurt. had little pinpricks of blood. It was cute!)

Haha...had a kid bring in a w/c coachwhip hatchling the other day at work. Snake thought it could fly. When the kid opened the container, out came this wiry little hatchling, literally flying through the air.

My reaction was to grab it mid-flight, which, apparrently, coachwhips don't seem to like very much. This little bugger must have tagged me a dozen or more times in about 5 minutes. The kid just looked at me getting repeatedly bitten and says, "I guess these aren't great pets, huh?"

He released it and bought a corn...
