Black out = Dead corns?

I will be getting a corn soon and on the news it said we might have a blackout near where I live. If I have a black out, there is no way to keep the corn im getting, warm.

What can I do, just in case I have a black out?

This time of year in NYC should be no problem. In the winter might be a little trickier, but I would imagine that if it isn't for a very long time, the snake will be just fine.

To Answer the original question,
It's probably warm enough where you are, that you don't even need heat on anyway. During this time of year, I spend most of my energy trying to keep the snakes cool enough.

You could knit it a sweater too and it still wont work. If we were tied in a pillow case we could keep warmer, clothes keep us warmer, because these items keep our body heat in. Snakes don't have this. I don't see why one would put their snake in a pillow case to attempt to keep it warm... it just wouldnt work :shrugs:

My suggestion however would be perhaps if you would be worried about a blackout for an extended peroid of time, you could get a hot water bottle, fill it with some warm water and place that under the side of the tank you want to keep warm.

That should work better than a pillowcase

Ello. I've been through this myself, I did the 'hot-water-bottle' thing, though not actually hot. Just kept a useful bunch of mates around to keep furnishing me with tepid water bottles, lol. At least you are preparing though, we had to fly-by-seat-of-pants, which is always interesting

Unless it gets drastically cold when the power's off or the power's off for more than a few hours, I wouldn't worry. Corns are hardy. A friend of mine had hers without heat for several days while she was moving them around. I'm not saying it was good for them, but they suffered no ill effects.

However, I would hate to be responsible if you followed my advice and your snake did get cold, so if you're still worried, you can purchase a small animal heater, and if you know when the power will go off, you can heat it up beforehand and put that under the bedding. Something like this:

But of course, neither that or the hot-water bottle will work in an unexpected blackout... due to the need for microwaves or kettles

Why would you need a kettle for hot water?

Just get the Hot (Warm) Water from any sink.

Regardless there would be a considerable amount of warm water already heated up in the water heater.

Course I wouldnt take a shower, as using that much would use up all the warm water, but just filling a water bottle wouldnt take much.

The warm water here doesn't get hot enough to be used with a hot-water bottle. It wouldn't warm the snake much and it would be cold within minutes. Even the boiling water-bottles are cold within half an hour. Maybe we have defficient hot-water bottles where I live.
