Black Rat Snake from Today

We've been having some truly weird weather, a rollcoaster of unseasonably warm weather followed by cold conditions. But I found my first rat snake of the year today. Photos are of the snake "as found."

We are enjoying some very cool weather here in Florida right now. Don't expect it to stay. Your photo reminds me of an experience a few years ago. I came home and a black rat was climbing up the side of my home right next to the door knob. He looked right at me.

Cool! My friends called me over to their house a few years ago and had a big yellow rat up over their door. He lives in my yard now.

The weather here has been weird too. The frogs and salamanders went crazy laying eggs in my pond last month. Hundreds of egg clumps all over the place. Then shortly after being laid we had freezing temps for a few days. All those eggs how have died and are rotting away. It smells quite bad out in my pond. :(
