hey guy im planing on getting a boa durring this up coming summer :grabbit: I wanted to start setting up the tank and stuff now. i have a 65g long tank and i was wondering if thats gunna be enough also what else would i need for it like anything special?

Assuming that by Boa you mean a Boa Constrictor Imperator of course... you know, even Green Anacondas are technically Boas. (Of the less wanted kind, as far as I am concerned).

1- What species are we talking here?
2- age?
3- gender- male or female? (greatly affects size)

"Redtail" is a term that is being abused rather regularly... usually encompassing the entire Boa Constrictor group... but in fact it should only stand for the BCC- the "True redtails" like Suriname Boas and so on.
I suggest you check it out- BCC's are a deal bigger, and can be a deal meaner too. I urge you to make sure you get a BCI
 
okay i figured out what im getting lol its gunna be a....... salmon boa constrictor! lol now would a 65 long be good fot that? or would i have to get a new tank.......
 
i wouldnt use an aquarium for a boa. they are hard to get to hold humidity and also to hold ambient temps. if thats all you have, yes it would work and has for a long time. but its far better to use a wood or pvc style cage. or even when its young to use a tub would be best in some opinions.

if your buying a baby/young boa you dont need to have a real big enclosure for it right away. so a tub could work and you could save up for a built cage or build your own if your hand enough.

a few things to look into are a good thermostat, heating sources, flexwatt, heat pads, bulbs, ches, or radiant heat panels. what style you want to use and how your gonna set it up.

and then figure out bedding and cage furnishings, hides, bowls, foliage.

and it never hurts since you have time to look around at all the good breeders. really nice snakes are going for a lot less than they used to. i know i cant wait for my new boaphile to come in so i can get another.

I agree with the above. There is a lot to think about before getting a boa. Like what bedding, heating and cage you'll use. A tank is not an ideal enclosure because of what was mentioned above plus a 65 gallon tank will not be big enough for a boa.

I have two Caulker Cay boas (Dwarf Island boas BCI) and a Columbian boa (BCI), I keep them in bins right now since they are babies. I use cypress mulch as a substrate with two hides, a water bowl and heat pad hooked up to a thermostat with a digital thermometer.

Their are many types of boas, some that stay small and some that get big. Here are two sites that list the different types of boas and gives you info so you can see what boa would be best for you.

As for not using a tank... I have to disagree... I am using glass tanks to great effect(vivariums, rather than aquariums though)- I admit, I do so due to lack of better options(If only I had access to Boaphiles over here!). Misting before a shed and providing a large enough water bowl does the trick.

Do remember that climate and ambient humidity is different from place to place so... choose the tank in accordance with the needs of the animal and local reality.
