Bought my first corn July 4th have some concerns

heat

If its getting too warm and you dont have a thermostat/reostat , try adding some aspen on top of the astro turf, or like u suggested newspaper. Making it full of more material will cause the heat to disapate some. You could also try turning it off and on when needed depending on the temps of ur home. To get a idea on how much aspen to add, try adding a few inches wait for it to heat up a hour or so later take the temps again if there good leave it, if its still too warm try adding more. Otherwise try picking up something to regulate the heat better. Good Luck! Amanda

 I am going to put in the aspen when I feed her on Friday, I think she is getting a little annoyed with me cause of all the changes I have already been doing to the viv, so I will give her some time to rest. Oh, and it never fails, you go and buy a hide that looks cool and they never use it, but you go and throw in a toilet paper role and they freakin' love it. What's the dealy yo? They have no appreciation! LOL.

hehehe Yep they always love them paper rolls..... and the good looking ones are just good for pooping on around here. I started collection tissues boxes and other small boxes, they seem to be used more then the 10 dollar or more ones I bought to look good lol....

Another reason why the little guy (or gal) may be up at the top is because he doesn't really have the room to get away from the heating element. A 5 gallon tank is VERY small. It's impossible to create proper thermoregulation in that size (it's even difficult in a 10 gallon!). You should seriously consider upgrading to at least a 10 gallon (until the corn reaches 2 ft) to provide him with proper heating.

I will look into it, I was wondering when to go to a biger tank anyway.

New Question

I have been searching the site, but i havent really found an answer to this. I have been watching Nagini for about 20 minutes and she has been pacing back and forth at the front of the tank trying to climb up the front. I havent seen her do this at all since i got her. I read one post that said the snake would pace when it was hungary. I think I should have gotten a bigger tank and maybe I can return it and get a bigger one. But the pacing is kind of concerning, she is really moving fast too. Any ideas?

As I said above, in the size tank you have, she has no way to thermoregulate properly. She can't get away from that heat element!

i can understand where you are comming from and I do respect your experience, after she calmed down and stopped pacing, she went back into her hide, I have 2, one on the warm, one on the cool, temps are 85 and 75 respectively, and she has been in the one on the warm side. I am going to go get another tank but at the moment I think there is enough room to thermoregulate. But I havve no experience to back my hypothesis, could also be that she is hungary. I will feed tomorrow too and see what happens.
