The red efts have toxic skin right? The past two years I have worked a reptile invasion camp, we have been lucky enough to find one or two of those. They are really neat.
I think I've got a name. Even though they aren't terrapins.
It's looking very lush and filled in out there. Every once in a while I get a glimpse of a fish. That lattice needs to be cut to fit- it's the shade for the hibernaculum. In the winter I will put a solid roof over it.
The tomatoes are going crazy. I have one strawberry!
It rained yesterday afternoon for the first time in weeks. So there were plenty of slugs out this morning. I caught a bunch for Fagalo- she loves them! Krusty has never tried one, though.
I set Krusty down by Fagalo and the pile of slugs and hid. (Krusty chases me around, begging for nightcrawlers). He tentatively leaned over, but kept jumping back after smelling them. finally he bit one and then ran to the pond with it, why I do not know.
Very nice! I love the pictures of them eating. They're either pigging out or looking at you like "take the dang picture so I can start eating!". I see lots of personality in them.
It's happening again! This is all Terra Pen's fault. I accidentally bought two pond liners, and rather than return the extra, I am going to build an above-ground pond!
The rope on the ground is the tentative outline. It will be 5x5, and two feet deep.
I'm on vacation next week, except I am working the holiday, for extra $$$! Someone is paying me to work for them, as well as my regular pay plus holiday pay.
Out in Terra Pen, the Texas Sage is in full bloom. I saw Krusty in the pond this morning, walking around with his head under water. he'd better not be fishing! I _did_ see five fish, too. And a ton of dragonflies- they love my yard.
Wow Nanci! Terra Pen looks awesome! It looks like it's been there for ages already. Especially the pond. It looks very well established. Look at that healthy green algae!
And last for now, here is Buttercup, hiding in the shade. I also found Koko out, and went to pick some hibiscus blooms for him. For the first time ever, he came when I called him!

I know! I love it. The grass is coming back and filling in. All the plants are doing great. Probably thanks to drip irrigation! I am going to go hunt for more water plants sometime this week.
The new pond will be for waterlillies and some small fish- either goldfish or pygmy sunfish.
All I did yesterday was go buy lumber and saw the 4x4's in half. My saw hated that! Today I got the first three courses down, level, square, and dug out the sod and dirt to about four inches below ground level.
Here's how it looks with the others. I envision extending Inez's patio out to the pond, and having either a little wrought iron table and chairs, or a glider.
