Branch with sharp edges?

I'm starting to distrust the reptile shop, from where we bought our first corn a couple of days ago. How could they even not tell me that the heat pad could get really hot and potentially hurt the animal...but I digress..

I just bought a tiny additional hide and a branch. However, the branch has sharp edges, and the store person said it's ok, it will help the corn shed better. I'm in doubt though. Some edges are truly sharp.

Below are the pictures of the two new items. I'm currently baking them at 350F, will keep them in for 30 to 45 minutes. The question is if I should remove the sharp edges and file them down to make smooth, or it's ok?

Here are a couple of pics, will appreciate your help.

With them coming from a pet store you shouldn't have to bake them they should already be pretreated to be able to be sold there. The reptihut would be fine but yeah some of the knobs on that driftwood does seem a little sharp. I'd defiintely file them down to smooth ends just to be safe. I have some limbs like that in my viv and they work just fine for shedding even with filed down ends.
 
As petstores that sell reptiles could possibly have mites wandering around, I'd definately bake anything bought there, personally! I'd personally never have bought such a badly-finished item as that branch, but if you don't mind spending time cutting the sharp edges and smoothing it off it'll be ok. (Just as a tip, I know branches and half logs look nice, but they are really hard to clean after the snake's pooped on them a few times and babies poop everywhere, so I tend to stick with trusty throw-away toilet roll tubes for babies!)
 
Jmho I'd take the Repti Hut back; they're useless for a snake to hide in unless it's almost buried in your substrate. J9 makes a good point about "cage furniture" also. It all looks good til it gets shat upon ;) I wouldn't be too concerned my snake would get hurt climbing on the log, but I'd trim or file (and bake it too) the "pokey" lol parts myself...
 
After 40 mins at 350f in the oven, I cooled off the two pieces. Then I cleaned all sharp edges with a pliers, and smoothed up all edges with a rotary tool. It's all in the cage now.

I really didn't think about the poop on the branch, lol.. we'll see how she likes it and the hut. The hut is on the cold side, looks good in the viv, but yeah---big holes on both sides, not really a good hide for her, hmm..
 
Instead of using the hut; I would try and see if any of your local shops sell cork bark peaces I picked up 2 large peaces for my snake for his "Big Boy Tank" as they lay flat on the substrate that way they can burrow underneath of them - and I have read on multiple sites and forums, that Corn Snakes love them! ;)
 
Lol maybe I've just got a good mannered snake : P I haven't had any trouble with Rapunzel pooping on her reptihut or climbing limb...now in the waterbowl that's another story.
