hi,just got my first amel (i think) corn snake and id like to know all of the safe woods /vines from outside to use and the ones to avoid , getting the wood isnt a problem as my dad has 135 acres of woodland he works in, so i should be able to find a branch or something :p

Some people avoid it like the plague. I've done it for years with snakes, lizards, frogs, and other amphibians and never had a problem with it that I know of. Everybody's big concern is introducing parasites or other things that will harm the snake... aside from that, the type of wood doesn't matter much. Try to avoid stuff the snake can impale itself on and avoid cedar or pine shavings in the tank... cedar or pine branches should be fine though...they're not all cut up and oily.
 
you can use them but it's best to bake them in the oven on 300 degrees. usually for thicker pieces about 30 mins smaller ones for about ten-fifteen.
 
The type of wood does matter if you want to be extra safe... I always advise people to go for fruit trees since they are easily recogniseable if you don't know a thing about trees! If your dad does know his stuff, see if you can pinch a nice bit of oak ;)

Bake the hell out of it, strip it, bleach it, just make it safe!
 
Oh I love climbing trees. I know I'm 23 but I still do. If you're anywhere up north....!! :laugh:
