breeder/business names

how do you pick an original breeder/hobby/business name that is not already taken? I mean, you can do an internet search AND look through 5 different magazines and still not be sure that you are not taking an already used name. Is there a list of breeder/reptile breeder names that you can look at to be sure that you are not taking one of their names? I know that even such a list will not be all-inclusive with all the small hobby-breeders out there, but I hope to have babies in a year or 2 and I would like to pick a name to use as my "snakery" lol. Any ideas?

I had the same problems. First I sat down and brain stormed like crazy and wrote down all my ideas and anything that popped into my head. I even recruited my mom, sisters, brother in law and wife. Each person had a week to come up with what they thought was there own original ideas. Of course I gave them the "theme" idea that I was looking for. (no, not just snakes and/or reptiles)

Then we all got together and discussed what the plans were and compiled all the names from everyone's list. Of course now that everything was out in the open, more names got thought about and suggested! Together we went over everything and threw many names out right away and discussed why. This gave everyone a better idea of what I was leaning toward.

Ultimately the choice was up to my wife and I, but I really appreciated the help from my family and all the input and encouragement they provided.

I took the remaining list and goggled every one, in several ways and fashions. If it came back with a retile business behind it or some other thing that I didn't want being confused as part of my business I threw it out. It's all about process of elimination.

Of course there are small businesses out there that do not have web sites or are listed on the web in any form. I don't think you can do much about that. Maybe contact your local business licensing buereu and try to get lists of local business names that have registered business liscenses and valid tax numbers? I don't know how far you want to go with it.

We're are just small time breeders, but I want to do everything legit. And I will jump through all the hoops to get there, I'm not trying to impress anyone but rather just make an honest living. Well, breeding reptiles is more a hobby at the level I'm at but you get the picture!

To be quite honest, we still haven't decided on a specific name but I have a pretty good idea what I'm going to use!

Pickup some books on owning and operating a small business. They offer all kinds of ideas! They also throw out things that can be adaptable to any small busines and many of those things you may never have thought of on your own!

Hope this helps you get started anyway. Remember be creative! If you have any questions on anything please feel free to send me a Private Message or Email me.

Good Luck!

thanks

it sounds like you put a lot of thought and effort into your naming. That is great. I used dogpile, that searches google and yahoo and other search engines with a name that I came up with. I combined 2 words and that made a more unique name, though a little longer than I wanted. When I searched for the words seperately I got a cool website with wierd figurines on it, but nothing related to actual snakes, lol. I'll continue to think of names to be sure that I find the one I want to keep, since I still have some time before needing an official breeder name.

you need to go through the proper hoops to be legit. the name needs copyrighted or trademarked...otherwise, anyone can take your name. I haven't gotten around to it yet...but I will be doing this with my business names (Triple Moons Exotic and Triple Moons Design).
