Breeding Software?

bump
There are lots (kind of) of threads that have this same question unanswered, and everything I find online is weird or hard to use or costs $.

Are you thinking of breeding that garter snake to your newt? :grin01:

But seriously, what would you be looking for breeding software to do? There are progeny predictors out there that will tell you what to expect from breeding one morph to another. Is that what you're looking for?

What programs do you use to keep track of breeding?
I created forms in Excel for tracking all of the data related to our snakes - feeding, sheds, weights, health issues or breedings. They can be printed out or used electronically. I personally like having the hard copy to write in new data that way if for any reason I lose the original files, I can still recreate them from the charts I have on hand.

As for predicting the outcomes of breedings, I use Lexicorn's breeding calculator and Mick's Corn Calculator. Both work nicely - just depends on which genes I'm working with at the time.

I installed your program but how do I run it?
If you ran the Windows installer, you should have a "ScerpDB" folder in your Programs list. If it's not there, then something must've gone wrong during the installation, so I'd try re-running the installer.

Just use Excel. If you have Microsoft Office its the easiest, most reliable, and cheapest thing you could possibly use and you can easily send spreadsheets to other people with the history or your corn or the parents of the corn. IMO

No, I forgot to update my signature to say that I bought two more garters, which are both 66% possible hets for leucism, one is normal, one is flame, my big one, however is wild caught and all this gets very confusing.
And yes that is what I'm looking for.

That's cool! I really like garter snakes. There are some kick-butt morphs. I wish I'd left some room for them in my collection.

I don't know if you're going to find a progeny predictor for garters. "Flame" is a co-dominant trait, so breeding your flame to your normal will produce flames in the first generation. If this is like co-doms in some other snakes, these first-generation flames may not be as intense as a "full-blooded"/homozygous flame. I believe that leucism is a simple recessive trait in garters, so if your pair are indeed hets, 25% of the offspring should be leucistic flames (if your flame is homo for flame).

Just for the record, my program can be customized (by the user) for any species or genes you wish to work with. True, the progeny predictor tool will only show homo/het results, but can still be used with co-dom genes if you know which they are when reading the results.
