i just got a baby corn and i got a reptitherm heat pad mini 4 my 10 gal tank
my question is it said on the directions that you need to buy repticarpet or else if the corn burrows under the substrate(aspen) that is directly under the pad it could get burned is this true? :shrugs:

i did worry about that but i have a thermostat that regulates the heat to make sure it never goes above 84 degrees... so i guess mines alright. i use aspen and he burrows a lot, no damage done yet :)

Yes, or at least a rheostat/dimmer. Otherwise those pads can get way too hot and burn your baby snake. They're not too hard to find...

yeah, its close to that...

if you cant get repti caret soon, just use paper towl and wrap it up good and tape the aper towl onto it so your corn cant get in, that whatim doing until i bu my new vivs, when i get them, im goning to buy repti carpet then

Until you can get a dimmer switch or thermostat, you can use ceramic tile in a size that covers the whole heat pad. Lay it in the tank over the heat pad and it will help diffuse the heat. You may need to use two layers - just make sure they are large enough so that they don't shift to prevent the snake from being pinched or crushed.

Carpet will not prevent the snake from burrowing down to the heat pad - they can crawl underneath. It is important not to use tape of any kind within a snake enclosure - baby snakes that get stuck on tape can do a lot of damage to their skin.

i only use very unsticky tape on the outside of the viv at the gap in the sliding dorrs, tallulah escaped at first chance :(

I wouldn't bother with repticarpet at all. It is tough to clean and provides excellent breeding ground for bactiera. Just use the aspen. To control your temps, you can get an inexpensive lamp dimmer from a hardware store or some place like Walmart. That's what I do, and have't had a burn yet.
