Can you believe this... What should I do?

Animal Loving Girl
I posted on Craigslist lookign for a snake, and I got an e-mail from some guy who says he works for the Discovery channel, has worked with Steve Irwin and Jeff Corwin. He's telling me that only stupid, irresponsible buffoons can manage to have a Corn Snake escape, and that I should never own any animal ever again. Do you believe the nerve of this guy? I tried to be nice, explain what happened, and he is being a total jerk! What do you think I should do? I could just block his e-mail, but if he really works for the Discovery Channel, I want to report him for his very unproffessional behavior. I mean, if he really works for them, he should not be e-amiling people, telling them he works for the Discovery Cahnnel, and saying they belong work a street corner, right? What does everybody think? I mean, I really am very upset about Kaa, and I listend to everything you guys on here said, a guy with a LOT of experience at my store, an exiotic animal vet... I WAS not irresponsible about this in anyway, and now this total jerk... What should I do?

Seems to me that someone who works for the Discovery Channel would have better things to do than to troll Craigslist.
I'll betcha he's some 25 year old pimply faced wannabe living rent-free in his mom's basement.
Block him.
Forget him.
Move on.

25? Sounds more like 15 to me. And an immature 15 at that. Don't dignify the twerp by replying any further or upsetting yourself.

Block him.
Forget him.
Move on.

Right on.

Don't worry yourself with someone on craigslist. There are some good people on there and then some real jerks...

Good Luck in your search.

I agree with everyone else. Listen, I have had four corns escape - one from a clamped on screen lid - so if they want to get out they will. Consider it a lesson learned.

If I were you I would try to find out when to send comments to the Discovery Channel and mention this J***A**. If he truly works there then they will know what type of "goodwill" he is producing; if not, then you know he is some wannabe know-it-all who doesn't know anything.

I've had 2 escape - if its so common then why does this guy think only a buffoon would let a corn snake escape!! Idiot!!

Why do you care what some faceless moron says to you on Craigslist of all places? You don't know him, he means nothing to you and you shouldn't be upset by something that has no bearing on your life or your ability to care for a snake. Block him.

Unfortunately, though, if you put in your ad that your snake escaped, you'll probably get more like him. You accidentally set yourself up as a target. It's no one's business why you want to get a snake. Change your ad, take out anything other than you're looking to adopt a cornsnake and you have the set up ready to go. When you get in touch with someone who has a snake to give/sell to you, you can explain what happened then if you feel the need.

I figured he wasn't real too, but do you think I should report him to the Discovery Channel anyway? No matter what they won't be happy, I figure, and the little jerk deserves whatever he gets...

Frankly, you won't find anybody more knowledgeable on the subject of corn snake husbandry than some of the old-timers here. If they tell you it's not unreasonable to have a corn escape, take it as fact.

Don't let some random troll get you down, this is the internet after all.

I just wanted reinforce this suggestion...
I see so many people who give out WAY too much information.
You are placing a want ad there is no need for long winded explanations.
I realize most folks give explanations and then take the heat, but why go through the headache in the first place?

With the best will in the world, I doubt the Discovery Channel will be interested in some "He Said/She Said" internet conversation between two people on a reptile message board.

Seriously - let it go and don't worry about it. Don't waste any more resources on the plonker.

If the Discovery Channel were some high-and-mighty professional organization dedicated to the betterment of animal husbandry.... then it might make sense to report him. But they're not. Its a TV show.

its a TV show...
