Can you really ever have too many???

Silly me huh??? Well I wanted to post this thread because I have realized that in the last year my boyfriend VinnyJ and I have been able to spend a lot of time from our lives to care for more corns, more he than I. This is something he has done for years and due to an unfortunate accident around the time he met me he lost a lot of his collection. We have succeeded in breeding this year and also OVER (LOL) succeeded in the "shopping" category quite well. The time and effort I see him put into his snakes is incredible and I am sure a lot of you are in the same boat so to speak, in the midst of our packing up to move to Orange County he has had to care for them as always and last night I popped in and out of the snake room every so often and held a few snakes and remembered how cool they really are, I easily forget. To see how big so many of them have gotten and to look forward to next year's breeding is exciting. We can't wait for all of you in So Cal or anyone else for this matter to swing on by and talk snakes once we have planted our feet. To see the little kid in VinnyJ around his snakes is awe inspiring as I too feel myself being a little kid at times, and I look forward to helping and supporting him with his goals of producing some great cornsnakes.

I guess to answer my own question I truly don't believe we can ever have too many snakes, especially when they are so much a part of our lives along with our other pets. But I am sure there are many of you out there that may wonder can I ever have too many...

I guess this may be a silly thread to start and quite long (sorry), but just wanted to get that out there...and besides I just became a contributing member :crazy02: and to RichZ - :cheers: thanks for providing such a great forum for all the cornsnake lovers across the world...

That's true in that sense, it is expensive and time consuming, but in the end it is very much worth it you know?

IMO you can only have to many if you can't put the same love, focus, and attention into the last one as well as you did to the first one.

Sometimes it seems like we have too many, especially when it comes to looking at yet another gorgeous looking snake we'd just LOVE to add to our growing collection. And they do of course take up ALOT of time when it comes to feeding, cleaning, photographing, and handling. But, I love each and every one I have and look forward to the ones that I know we'll be getting over the next couple of weeks.

There are times when I question our sanity (more then usual) when I think of how in 8 months we have gone from owning about 12 nice snakes to owning over 50. This of course does include our first clutch! lol. I think we're very much addicted.. seeing as how there's at least another 10 we'll be picking up before the end of the year!

I must be nuts....

Two months ago I might have said that it wasn't possible to have too many....but with all the clutches that have hatched out I think I've changed my mind.....of course I'll conveniently forget again in the spring when we're pairing up the snakes again

Yes, absolutely. The last snake to enter my collection will be loved and cared for just the same as the very first. I would only consider I had too many if I could no longer afford them or care for them... I think if you stop enjoying the daily maintenance of the snakes, it's time to stop.

When you realize just how many adults you'd have to sell to make CAGE SPACE for the juveniles you're promoting to new accomodations, that's when you have too many.

I say yes. When you no longer have the finances or the time to care for each snake properly, you have too many. When feeding and cleaning become such a burden that you avoid doing it, you have too many. When the snakes suffer from lack of attention, you have too many.

Of course, the actual number varies from person to person.
