Can't find any poop....

:shrugs:

I am starting to get worried about our corn snake Zea. She has been fed on Jun 30/04 and I haven't found any poop yet. I sifted through all of her substrate last night pretty thoroughly and couldn't find a thing. And the last time she pooped it was very small. She is in blue phase at the moment
The reason I'm getting worried is that I read a post yesterday about someone's corn snake that had died from impaction. Apparently the corn had ingested substrate but the owner couldn't figure out how. They said they always fed the snake outside of the viv in a separate container without substrate. This led me to think that perhaps the snake had ingested it's own poop.
Has anyone ever seen this happen? Or am I just worrying too much?

Temps are fine in the viv I think (see "Too hot for my corn" for more background)

Any advise or encouragement is appreciated.

Well no need to panic just yet. most corns poop on a regular basis like a clockwork. Some don't. If you think your snake is constepated you can bath her in luke warm water. that sometimes does the trick. If that doesn't work and the snake is really impacted I think it is best to see a vet about it.

So long

i often worried about poops when i used shredded aspen, but when i switched to paper towels i could see every little problem. Your snake might just be pooping really small and hidden because it has been absorbing almost all of the mouse. Maybe try feeding it something bigger?

UPDATE!!!!!! The poop has arrived!!!!

Well, Zea finally pooped. And oh what a poop it was!!!!!!!

We had her out of her viv last night to check her shed (if she did or did not shed, she did not) and let her roam around a bit. She seemed fine, happy, interested in checking out the place. Then my girlfriend wanted to see what would happen if Zea saw her reflection is a mirror. We have a small mirror that we use to check her hide to see where she is (the opening is pointed away from the front of the viv to give her more privacy). As soon as she saw herself she froze. Then her back end started pulsing and "whoop, there it is", all over Jade's pants.
It looked healthy enough. 3 large brown pieces, 2 white pieces, and a lot of liquid. However, I feel like she only did it cuz she was scared. We scared the crap out of her, literally.
Now I'm wondering how long it would have been before she crapped on her own. She last ate 9 days ago..... and no poop until now.... and we had to scare it out of her.
Also, since we have had her (about 3 weeks now) we haven't found anything like this in her viv. The only poop we found was a tiny spot. Very strange..... She has never had a full poop on her own in her new home yet...... good or bad? I'm still not sure.

Yesterday I was reading a lot of posts about bathing your snake. And how it seemed to help a lot of snakes poop. Some people bath their snake a few days after feeding in order to stimulate the movement. Now I'm wondering if the water doesn't just scare the snakes so much that they poop out of self-defense....

Anyone ever put a mirror in front of their snake to see what would happen and get the same results as we did last night?
We're interested in knowing if it is common.

OK well we are on the topic I have a question. It may sound kind of weird but, what colour should a healthy cornsnakes poop be? My Pyro's is kindof a whitish greyish colour, and i was wondering if that is healthy. Beacause I find it to be a weird colour of poop.

I wouldn't know for sure if it is an ok colour or not. I haven't read any posts that describe the colour as whitish greyish. Maybe some more experienced herpers on this forum can be of more help.....

I imagine they'll have some questions about your snake first though, before they would be able to say anything
Like:
- how old is your snake?
- has the poop changed colours recently (meaning, did it used to look different, and how different)?
- other then poop, how is the overall temperment of your snake, different then usual?
- how're the temps in your viv?
stuff like that......

Ok thank- you soo much for that. Do you have any recommondation for a more experienced herpers? Its just that i am VerY new at this and i doint really know whos the best to talk to. Thank you:)

Your best bet...

is to start a new thread. People reply pretty quickly here. And starting a new thread would get everyone's attention, not just people looking in on this thread.
Just make the thread name "Whitish Greyish poop" and you'll have people looking at it in no time.......

Good luck.

Shall i quote the cornsnakes bible? Here we go...

"Stools sbould consist of solid brownish-black masses with some yellowish semisolids or viscous fluids, and maybe a little clearish fluid too."(page 7)

Kathy Love is exactly on the spot. I see poop alot these days....

Whenever my snake is going into the shed cycle, he holds his poop. Then right after he gets done shedding, and has the pretty new skin.....he takes a giant poop.
But I can understand that with the old skin, you don't wanna poo and have some get between the 2 layers of skin.
