Cant make up my mind on a colony, Rats or Mice

breeding rats or mice

i think you should do rats because if you have big snakes that will get big as ball pythons do then you will be needing to breed rats you only need to feed one rat compared to 4 to 6 mice for them to be full.

i have been breeding for 3 months now and i have a 7 foot male superhypo jungle male boa constrictor and a female that is maybe 4 feet that eats 1 medium rat and my male eats 1 large rat a week.

so if you have many snakes i think you should do rats instead of mice because their way more complete diet for them and you can feed less rats then mice.

and you're snakes will grow better on rats then mice. i use to have a ball python and those asf's didn't do her any good she wouldn't eat them worth of crap she didn't like them and i would not feed them to you're ball python because if she eats them and likes them. you're ball python won't go back to regular rats or mice she will just like the asf's and be stuck on them. :duck::wavey: owe if you need help on getting started just email me at [email protected]

Well, I picked up a 3rd female, and for some reason the first 2 females died, they were separated from the new female still and died so I doubt she gave them any thing. I now have her and my male together, they have really grown in the last few weeks. I think I'm ganna pickup a couple more females and quarantine them for a while before adding them into the colony. I'm pretty disappointed that I lost 2 of them so fast. They had plenty of food, water and so on. I actually wonder if they died from early pregnancy maybe, I don't know I could be wrong.

But the Original Male and the most recent (got her just 2 weeks after I got the first 3 originally) seem to be doing just fine, still waiting on the ol boy to knock her up hahaha.

Well Thought I would post an update. Today I came home to find 14 rat pinks and a new mommy waiting for me :D Looks like I finally got some where with these guys lol.

Thanks Bob :D They are now with little white coats but no eyes open, they are almost big enough, I think a few more days and it will be time for "the task" how ever I think im going to keep a couple females for breeding later on (when they are old enough) so I can rotate them for breeding and so on. Atm its looking like I have mostly females in this litter for some reason.

So long buying mice lol. (Thank God)
