Caramel Blood Red yearling

While in another thread, I posted the following thought that popped into my head about these Caramel Blood Red Corns:

Hah! I am sitting here at the keyboard and was going to type in those gawd awful names I could only come up with for the Caramel Blood Reds, and here I am staring at a can of nuts sitting right by the keyboard. Why, look at the color of those things! I think this will fit nicely: Almond Corn! And if I can get a variety with a lot of white speckling: Salted Almond Corn!

Of course, I don't have a full adult yet, so maybe I should hold off on that for a couple of years. But do those names bring to mind what you would expect the animal to look like?

Sure sounds better than those other names I was coming up with!

What do you think? Too early to tell yet? I'd hate to get into another one of those Mocha/Lavender fiascos.....

Darin,

Oh don't get me wrong on this. I love the genetic make ups of the caramel bloodred. I actually want to get one too...ask Rich...I asked him if he was selling any of these but he wasn't....I totally appreciate the genetic make up of these animals~ just not too much on the phenotype....lol....

Rich,

I don't know about Almond Corns or any other name....I would rather like it to be kept simple as the Caramel Bloodred Corn (at least it's easy for me to understand the genetic make up of the corns and what I am getting. Getting an "Almond Corn" just doesn't really do it for me....besides if I were new into corns I would be thinking that this 'Almond corn' would be another base gene makeup like the amel, anery, caramel, and lavender...so I would rather like it to be called Caramel Bloodred Corns....just my opinion...

I hear you Simon, but to be honest, as I learn more and more about how little we really know about the "standard" genetic types we are already working with, I am leaning more and more towards getting away from labelling things based on what are probably incorrect preconceived notions are. We really don't know what a Blood Red is. Calling something a Caramel Blood Red is like calling something a "black albino". Makes no sense at all.

I'm not saying I'm right about this, but based on where I see this all leading to, this is the logical choice to make about naming the new cultivars (and probably renaming old ones).

I don't like it much either, but I didn't make this pandora's box we have opened.

I think if anyone can organize our Corndora's Box, its you, Clint and Kathy. I'm not sure how others might keep up with corns, but I know I check these forums quite frequently, and your site frequently enough too. If you were to go about refering to some of the different morphs with new names, I would follow your lead.
