Hey does anyone use Carefresh bedding for their snakes? (The stuff people use for their rodent pets) what are the pros and cons? Thanks

Super dusty, hated cleaning it out of sales floor cages when I worked for PetSmart. I used it when it first came out many many years ago, well before my previous sentence. It was dusty back then too and most of my snakes usually wound up piling it into their water bowls. Minus the dust, it seems much better suited for the small, furry critters over the scaled variety.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think about it getting in the water bowls, that's a good point. It would probably make a huge mess considering how absorbent it is. As for the dust part of it, would that cause health problems?

I noticed some sneezing in my snakes while I used it. It could lead to respiratory issues. I know it bugged me when I'd set habitats up after cleaning.

Ok thanks. I was thinking about checking out kaytee brand, it's the same kind of stuff as Carefresh. I did some research and apparently it's less dusty.

Definitely an option. I've always been a fan of Kaytee items, but honestly haven't used any of their products in probably 12-15 years. I simply use the shredded aspen bedding sold at Walmart. Cheaper and more volume for a bale than using carefresh or petsmart/petco stocked rodent or snake aspen bedding.

I use it from when a hatchling has eaten for the first time to the first bedding change (or till I get sick of it, if sooner.) I like it for shipping babies. But it's smelly, sucks up water and then is sopping wet, (unlike aspen that lets water drain through) molds if wet, can smell like regurge...But it's nice and soft on little hatchlings.

Seconding this. I always point people to the Kaytee brand instead, since it seems a tiny bit less dusty.
