ok im not using carpet as bedding im using aspen...but i was just wondering what everybodies opinion on if carpet would be an ok substrate or not?

never really thought about it. but i suppose there could be harmful chemicals in the foam underneath. and the surface would be quite rough to a snake. interesting though.
good post

the kind of carpeting doesnt have foam but i can see what your sayin about bein kinda rough, but i was told to use astro turf and im my opinion thats way rougher...what do you think about asroturf?

If you mean reptile carpet, I started out with that. You have to have two sets so when you take one out and run it through the washing machine, you can put the other set in. Snakes love to burrow under it and can make fairly permanent tunnels. So you have to be sure your UTH is on a thermostat, because the snake will get right on it. It's difficult to spot clean, and not as natural looking, although aspen isn't exactly natural looking either. I eventually switched to aspen and wouldn't go back. Carpet is just too much work.
