I've been working on the Fort Hood military base for the past month and a half, working on an endangered songbird research project. While I'm out tromping around looking for birds, I'm also flipping over rocks, logs, and keeping my eyes open for any interesting critter that I see. So far I have been pretty productive! I will update this thread as I find new animals or get better pictures of the ones already posted. I hope everyone enjoys the pictures! I know I love taking them :)

Nice finds Angela! That Broad-Banded Copperhead is a realy nice lookin' one (the ones I find outside Austin are dirty looking compared to that)... Awesome stuff!

I agree, that Copperhead is very nice. Love the colors. The Texas Rat is pretty cool looking as well. Love the lightness of coloration. The ones I used to find back home ( Southeast Louisiana ) are much darker, but you could find some rather large ones.

Thanks Graham and Walter! He was a pretty small guy too. He actually struck at me and fell off the tree onto the ground, and continued to strike, it was "cute"! Meanwhile, there were two others slithering around me planning their attack, I'm sure.

I love the looks of that Copperhead. Too bad they're venomous! They're so pretty when they look like that one that I'd have one in a second if it wasn't hot.
 
As much as I would rather not run into a copper head hehehe, I love how they look. They really are an awsome looking snake.
 
I love the blind snake and the flathead snake. Such interesting creatures. What kind of habitat do you tend to find them in?

They are fossorial so live underground. But you can find them flipping over rocks and logs or other debris. Im not sure their range, but they seem to be pretty common here in Texas. A bunch of my coworkers have been finding them as well.
