Charcoal or Phantom?

I just bought this yearling from a local pet store here in southern Ontario as a charcoal, but it appears to be hypo as well. I have not seen many pics of 'phantoms' (hypo charcoals), so any opinions are welcomed.
Any opinion Rich Z? Most likely you've seen more phantoms than anyone else.
I'll breed him to a hypo next spring to see for sure if he is hypo.

looks like a phantom to me....charcoal should have more darkish grey coloration on it.

Unfortunately I have seen enough Phantoms (Charcoal Ghosts) to know not to try to guess what one is without knowing the genetic heritage. I have things hatching out of my own stock that I put questions marks on the deli cups for the labels.

And the worst is yet to come.
 
I've heard theories (unconfirmed AFAIK) that some hypo hets will lighten up a lot as they mature, some looking as light as homozygous hypos.

This might explain some of the confusion... assuming it's true. (?)
 
Going by the look of the checkers on the ventral side I'd say it's definately hyopmelanistic. Look at the checkers, there is a space in between the middle of the alternating checkers, telling us that it is displaying a hypo trait. If it were a non-hypo the checkers would be solid black and not that grayish color that you can see.

I began putting my corn collection together about 2-1/2 years ago. This was actually my first year for breeding corns. I just sold off my the last of this years hatchlings last weekend. That brings me down to 60. Oh! almost forgot about the other 12 eggs due in september. I also have a few other snakes I'm working on breeding projects with. I would say I'm committed to this hobby. My wife says I should be committed.

Thanks everyone for the opinions. I'll breed him to a hypo in the spring to confirm or deny the 'hypo theory.'

Jim, did you eat some poisonous berries in the Adirondacks? Poisonous berries could cause disorientation, and disorientation could cause you to think this snake has any chance of leaving my greedy clutches. Heehee.

they are great for storing these lovely snakes~~~
