Cheerio sub-substrate

I was planning on getting a shot of Cheerio's faded head pattern last weekend for rivernamir's head pattern thread. I grabbed my daughter's camera, opened the viv top.........uh, no head. I was about to get her body and find her head and I saw a moving bulge in the Reptibark, just like when Bugs Bunny tunnels underground in the cartoons. The bulge broke open and of course out popped a snake head (I kind of figured that's what it was, although I would like to meet Bugs, always been a fan).

Now the camera is bothering her.

If it looks like there is snake everywhere it's because there is, her tail is sticking out of the other end of the bark tube.

Okay, she's had enough, moving on.

I'm not sure how well a hatchling can move through Reptibark, but this snake pushes through it easily. I do find that I have to screen or sift it before I put it in or she gets "dust" between the scales on her nose from burrowing.

Couldn't find a pic of Cheerio with dust on her, I know this is a non-corn in a corn forum, forgive me.
This is what you get when you don't sift or screen your Reptibark. This guy went under the bark right away looking for an escape route..

Nice snakes dude, cheerio rocks. How many Amels do you have in that tank? :nyah: . I like the second one as well...what kind is it?

Thanks, we like her.
The other snake is a Black Ratsnake I had for a short time, he's back in the world now, it was only temporary.

I learned the term for that on Viper Keeper: submarining.

Cute pics!
Thanks, Nanci
That's an interesting term to use considering there is no water involved, that's why I called it sub-substrate. I do like the term though, I was on a submarine for four years in the US Navy.

Great photos, but I actually thought that this was going to be a thread asking about using Cheerios the cereal *as* an actual substrate! My thought was, "well, that's an interesting idea...!" Ohmigosh...! I need to get a decent night's sleep sooner than later! :p

LOL I thought you were using Cheerios as a substrate!!! Sheeesh I need more Diet Pepsi :D

You have some great shots there! Cheerio looks good in that shade of brown :D

LOL We were typing at the same time! I got plenty of sleep yesterday... maybe too much so it's gotta be a lack of Diet Pepsi for me :D

Lovely pics Alan!

Thank you ladies.
Oh no, does this mean we need another substrate poll?
