chlorhexidine cleaning

So I was setting up my snake's brand new larger viv and I decided to clean out the new tank with chlorhexidine gluconate instead of antibacterial soap which is what I used to use.

When I diluted it, I only did about a 1:4 ratio which I now understand is much stronger than usually done. I sprayed everything down with it, (hides, fake plants, and inside of viv) and I rinsed everything very well.

I was wondering if it was safe that I used a higher concentration than usual and if I should worry about rinsing everything some more or if it is okay.

Thanks!

That stuff is really strong. I would follow it with a white vinegar rinse and let it completely air out. Like 24 hour air out.

I actually use a product I found at local PetsMart specific for cleaning reptile cages. Completely safe and effective if used according to directions. It's called - "Heavy Duty Cleaning Spray for Reptile Terrariums" made and sold by the National Geographic Assoc.

I use chlorhexidine in the human hand washing strength to wash water bowls. I just make sure I rinse well. I second the use of for-reptiles sprays for general cleaning, unless you are cleaning a viv to be used for a new animal.
