Clean everything once a month ?

I've got 3 fake plants , 3 hides , a large grapevine and a smaller vine in my viv along with the water bowl , and was wondering if I needed to clean all of those along with the tank monthly ?

Any problem with cleaning some of these items a few days prior to cleaning the tank ? Does it defeat the purpose to have those items come in contact with older substrate about to be changed ?

i usually spot clean my plants and things, and then come time for cleaning the tanks, i usually fill the sink with hot water and soap, dump all the plants in there, and go off to scrub terrariums. I dont think it defeats the purpose, but if some one poos or a smell gets in there it might stick around a touch longer.

so, short answer, i dont think it is a problem

Yep I'd say so.

I spot clean as poop appears (clean it off everthing that it's contacted including fake plants etc), then do a full disinfect of the viv and everything in it, once every 4-6 weeks.

There's not much point putting clean plants back into a dirty viv. They could just end up carrying bacteria into the clean tank when you clear out a few days later. I do the whole lot at once.

Heck, ONE cleaning schedule is enough for me to keep up with! Spot clean as needed and do the whole shebang at the same time. Also, check for sharp projections before you put the fake plants back. Sometimes the wires mysteriously poke through in places they weren't before. If in doubt, dab some hot glue on anything your snake could use to hurt itself.

Thanks ppl. I was planning on doing this while he fed in a seperate container and was looking for ways to accelerate the process. I guess if I don't feel like blow drying these plants I can just leave them out to dry and put them back in the clean viv later on in the day. No big deal if my guy goes without a vine or 2 for a few hours while they dry.

And I'll be sure to check those plants regularly , thanks for the tip.

When I wash the plastic plants, I wash them first, shake off the excess water and hang them over a doorhandle to drip while I clean everything else.

By the time the viv and other fittings are clean, the worst of the water is off and I put them straight back in as they are. They dry off fully inside the viv in 24 hours - the slightly raised humidity for a day doesn't do any harm.
