Cohabbing a Corn and a BP

ssssinful-1

Held Hostage By Corns
I ran across this ad today on a website similar to CL. It saddens me to see a owner cohabbing their animals, let alone a corn and a BP together. But then the uneducated owner posts an ad selling- including pictures of the two snakes together. :eek1:

Uneducated owner could sell to an uneducated buyer and the cycle continues. Hopefully, any buyer would know that these two should be housed individually. But, for the price they are asking for the snakes and set up... ummm, it may be sometime before they move it.

You could spend your life getting stressed by things you can't change. It's a shame, but unless you can think of a way to improve that particular situation, then it's best to let it go and find a way of making a difference elsewhere. Just for the sake of your own sanity.

I see stuff like that all the time in my area. Especially on Craigslist. Saw an ad from a woman looking for an adult female corn to keep her male corn company as a cage mate. She specifically said this wasn't for breeding just so the two could be playmates. I sent her a note saying they'd be playmates alright and asked if she had the resources to care for the dozen or so baby snakes when they hatched. :)

Oh, geeze. Where do people come up with this stuff? :( Sent the person a brief email concerning the cohabbing issue. Probably won't help any, but you never know...

I dont see how people could think that is ok.

We do have one of our corns bins next to a ball pythons tank. Of course now she seems to think she is a ball python. She always watches when the python eats then when it is her turn she tries to do it the same way. And she was not a vicious eater before we moved her bin there. Now you have to be careful you dont loose a finger if she knows you have food.

Somebody else already posted about this ad. Its sad. I've learned to turn down my pity reflex to some degree because like my mother told me, "You can't save them all".

I also noticed the dry water bowl, which was mentioned in the other thread about this pair of snakes. The only thing I can say in the owner's favor is that at least their in a 55 gallon and not a 10 gallon. It's a lot easier to for snake to get away from each other in a 55 gallon than a 10 gallon. However, I'm surprised that the ball python hasn't eaten the corn yet. They each look reasonably un-chewed on.

I just replied to a guy trying to give away an amel corn in El Paso. The poor thing has a "90 degree" kink in its neck and has to be force fed. I told him that all the breeders I know would have culled it already. I am waiting on a reply from him.

haha sinful, I had already posted this in another thread. I found it on my local craigslist and was shocked. Glad so many people are posted him.

Some people...

Vickie, I admire your compassion, but be really careful, CL snakes can have mites or diseases. If you aren't set up to provide really really good QT, those could spread to your snakes. If you are set up for it, and have the money, what a wonderful thing to do!

Craigslist is just painful to read after learning how to care for Corns and other snakes. I am happy someone did contact them with information about it. If nothing else to pass along to a new owner.

BP's are such picky eaters, I'm sure cornsake isn't on the menu. lol

True that... I have trouble getting my BPs to eat rodents regularly, so I highly doubt they'd gnaw on a corn snake. Now if the corn were a lot bigger, I'd actually be worried about the BP becoming dinner! :nope:

Some people suck, but I try to remember what others have said - you can't save them all. To say something positive about the situation, at least the cage looks clean & snakes appear healthy... now fill the darned water dish. So floof, did you hear back from the seller yet?

Btw, I did respond to a stupid Craigslist person ONCE, when I saw an ad selling a BP with their heat rock included. I sent a very polite email telling him the dangers of heat rocks, and suggesting he switch it out for a lamp or UTH. He wrote back some unintelligible "I no wat I be doin, he ain't hert" response, and claimed to work at a pet shop... my reply was basically "please tell me where you work, so I can make sure never to shop there."

Ironically, we might be encouraged to spam bomb the CL account.. *lol* I would not recomend doing that..

Exactly.. Its not that we can't or don't care for the animals, but there should be a lot of thought given to the idea that stress from improper husbandtry can lead to other health issues..

Of course, did anyone other than me actually look at the other photos posted with that ad? They have water.

Not at all... Not that I was expecting a response; it'd be a shocker if the guy even read the whole email, considering people often so dislike to be told they're doing "it" wrong...
