Has anyone ever had their corn just start going nuts on ya??? Tonight while I was carring her She started stretching and waving like she was swimming but was trying to get away! I put her in a holding box and she was still going nuts only not as bad. a few minuets later I looked in on her she had pooped and peed. I figured that was the problem, but when i got her out she started doing it again. She has never dont this before. ANd it has been 30 min since I put her back in her cage. I am gonna check on her now to see how she acts I will let yall know. :(

I wouldn't call myself the expert... of course we all know that a "blue" snake has a good chance of getting into the "freak-out" stage, but they'll do it at other times too... maybe if you wake them frfom a deep sleep? :)

Usually I'll restrain the snake until it calms down, which might be moments to minutes, depending. I hate to put a snake "away" when it's in such a panic because it pounds the glass/plastic/screen/whatever pretty frantically. It's also a cheap excuse to spend some time with a specific snake, which in a collection over 50 is a nice thing to have now and then as a distraction from the feeding and cleaning.

Yeah she did freak out a bit when i put her in a box, but when i gave up and put her in her cage she went innto her hide and didnt come back out. When my husband came home I had him check on her and she was fine :) I am guessing something I didnt notice startled her.

Maybe you had been handling your cats and your snake detected the odor of a predator on you. Remember that a snake's sense of smell is dramatically better than yours.

Yeah I think so also. I bet the cats give her a scare, because when she finally comes out of her hide to prowl at night the cats are on top of her cage as quick as they see her. That is why I am actually building a rack. Atleast the cats wont beable to see her that well.

you had to mention cats.....

so now I must subject you to a picture of the WC kitten my wife and I are trying to ween... we found him at 3-5 days old (his umbilicle cord was still attached.) He just opened his eyes for the first time a few hours ago. We're having troruble getting him to poop often enough... he's gone form 120 to 200 grams since we found him....

How precious!!!!!! I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!!!! too bad my husband says 3 is enough in a 2 bedroom apartment!!! Where is the mom did she get killed or does it look like it was taken from its mom and dumped off....normally the first thing cats do is eat the afterbirth and umblical cord and like their kittens clean. Was it clean or did it look like well all yucky dry or not.

I have had a dog that had never gave birth before and since her momma wasnt home (my mom) she freaked out and was having puppies everywhere she walked. So it is possible that the cat was too stressed and just walked away from it. Or maybe she expected it to die for somereason.

Anyhow I am glad you both found it and are bottlefeeding it a lot of people wouldnt care. I am sure it will make a wonderful pet for you or the lucky owner who you give it to.

LoL it should be called Lucky!

Baby kitten eyes usually dont open for 3 - 4 days so if it just opend then you have about 5 more weeks before it can be weened. A good rule of thumb is make sure it is eating dry catfood. Another thing give it kittne milk (can be found in the store) Cats are lactose intollerent. If you cant get kitten milk then go for baby formula cut with water and if not that then just milk cut with water. I am sure you will do fine by it.

LoL you are problably reading this saying DUHHHHHHH LoL

GL with the new snake watcher :)

As long as it's eating, defecating normally, and shows no outward signs of illness I wouldn't worry about it. Snakes at times do a lot of things that we humans might think are strange.IMHO

about that kitten......

Baby kittens have to be stimulated by their mother to go to the bathroom. If you don't do this, the kitten is in trouble. If you don't know how to do it, contact a rescue society or a vet to find out how.

thanks for all the advice!

He's doing OK so far.. if you want to keep tabs on him, I'm updating the picture on my website every few days so you can just link the same image file and see if it's been updated (I'm posting them at 50% of 1024x768 and trying to get a nice crop, so if anyone else feels compeled to use the pics as desktop wallpaper I think they're in a size most people can use without the quality being too low.

so the "pic of the week", if you will, is at

http://www.HerpUtopia.com/amelpie.jpg

For now, he's small enough I'm keeping him in a heated reptile setup with an old cotton shirt for substrate and a pet toy explicitly because it's fuzziness might in some way make up for the lack of a mommy in his life, but of course I'm also doing what I can to maintain some semblance of a quarantine on him until he's old enough to be tested for parasites or other trouble, such as feline leukemia.... I sure hope he doesn't have anything incurrable because I'm getting pretty attached to him :)

The pic looks great on my desktop!! Keep us infomed ok :) Hmm might wanna name it Corn hehe or (corn snake) or something so you dont get in trouble hehehehe

How to get the cat to poop

A mama cat stimulates her kittens to poop by licking its bottom. A great way for a person to help a kitten along is to get a paper towel or wash rag wet with warm water and wipe the baby's bottom with it for a few minutes.

eep!

please please please dont name the poor kitten lucky. theres something horribly unlucky about that name in my experience. :) good luck :)

Curtis...I'm glad to hear you say that you are going to have the kitten tested for feline leukemia. Most vets use a combo test that also tests for FIV (feline aids). Anyway, almost ALL kittens have intestinal parasites. The kitten needs to be dewormed at three weeks of age...and if your kitten's eyes just opened, then he is probably around ten days old. It's rare for them to open their eyes before 10 days. Another good way to estimate their age is by watching for their baby teeth to come in. That typically happens at around three weeks of age.

Kittens get their 1st shots (distemper and another deworming) at 6 weeks old, the 2nd set (same as the first) at 10 weeks old, and their 3rd set (distemper, rabies, and deworming) at 14 weeks. They can usually be tested for feline leukemia after they are six weeks old, but the vaccinations for feline leukemia are typically started at 14 weeks old.

SilverTongue was right about cats being lactose intolerant...dogs are too, by the way. Cats can actually handle milk and fat better than dogs, but that's off the subject :D Kitten milk replacer is the best thing to use for your little one. Never use "people" milk.

A warm damp washcloth works best for stimulating the kitten to use the bathroom. This sounds gross...but a washcloth is rough like the mama cat's tongue.

Good luck! It's a lot of work, but also LOTS of fun! By the way, how often are you feeding him? And how long have you had him?

Hey sounds like your on your way to a "kellum like" zoo! we have five cats ( all adopted) two dogs (also adopted) two fish (one adopted) two hermit crabs (adopted) and one snake that I bought from Serpenco this year.

Have fun!
