Corn Snakes... The gateway reptile!

I'd really like one of Meg's ATBs too but keep getting scared about their care, particularly the humidity, living in an arid place. I want an awesome, well setup display cage for one and I'm just not finding anything I really like in the right dimensions for a cage. Want to have one all setup and running well before buying. Think like you, that I'd like to try a planted viv.

I was initially scared of trying a tropical arboreal. So many stories around stating they are "expert" snakes and will require insane humidity and various other peculiarities. But the more I researched, the more I found it's not as scary as one initially thinks. All I can really say is, don't let the assumed humidity requirements scare you too much. If you research enough (Amazon-Alliance and MegF's site are both excellent sources of information that I frequent often) you'll find it's not much more demanding than a Corn is.

Yeah, I was also initially afraid of the humidity required for the coxi and the BRB but a couple years of keeping crested geckos taught me a few things and reassured me I could handle those species. Still have some problems with the cresteds though, it's harder with a more arboreal cage, I've found.

I wish I knew how a couple of halloween phases turned out from another litter. They had a lot of orange on their bellies and an orange overwash to them that I'd never seen before. I wonder if they kept that as they matured. As far as seeing your cornsnake. I see mine all the time but then I don't feed as often as most people do. Since she's out hunting she is always out and about.

I looked into rubber Boas...kinda fell inlove. :(

their native to Canada and the states whitch I found really neat!
and they are CUUUTE! I think out of all of the Boas/vipers,

I would want a rubber boa..(oh how I wish they were legal here!) :(

I know the feeling-I'm seriously tempted to come home from Repticon next month with a sand boa-for ME, not for Alli. Alli wants poison dart frogs (to add to our leopards). And we both think Beardies and Leopard Geckos are adorable. Oh, and there's a cute king snake at PetSmart that I wish they'd sell quickly, before I succumb to temptation and bring him home. He's got a :) on his head, and he seems to be out and cruising most of the time, even though he has a hide. He also has shed at least 2x since they've had him, so I figure that's a good sign that he's reasonably healthy.

And just think-I'm the parent who, a year ago, was still telling my child "No" to "Can I have a snake??"

ATB's are a pretty hardy snake. They do need proper humidity and heat but it's not that hard. A good rubbermaid tub will do the job or a cage made for the job. Vision cages or something like I have.

I have had a corn snake since December and I did ok for a while, until I saw a Brazilian rainbow boa. Now I'm dying to have one. I just feel like I need a bit more experience before owning one.

I almost came home from my errands today with a brown basilisk. PetCo had a few of them pretty cheap (yeah, i know, not the best place to buy from) and it was soooooooo tempting while i was in there window shopping.

Gateway reptile for sure. I love my little corn, he's sweet and gentle, but I want a few others now.

I really like the Mexican Black Kingsnake

Yup! I hear ya!! I swear I have two of the absolute sweetest corns ever, but they definitely leave me wanting more. The #1 on my wish list is the Mexican black Kingsnake. They are sleek, classy and gorgeous! Maybe cliche, but still want one more than any other snake.
Next up on my list is the Bamboo thai ratsnake....Incredibly beautiful snake that I am dreaming of :)

I'm not a fan of the bigger snakes, I'm not too interested in cleaning up big snake poop lol but some of them, such as the rainbow boa's really temp me.

My first cornsnake and finding this forum has truly opened the snake obsession within me ;)
