Whoops, I messed up your poll, I think :(

I was 17 when I got my first snake, so I voted the 11-20 catagory.

But my first reptile pet was some green anoles...I'm not sure when, but it was probably before I was in 5th grade.

I got my first reptile pet(s) when I was 36, but had captured, looked at, then released all sorts of herps, bugs, amphibians etc all my life.

I got my first this year! 17 now and 18 in a week! WHOO HOO ;)

Been waiting my whole life (well almost) to get a snake

Thanks for your replies.
I always wanted to get a snake since I was about 8 but since I live in England, it's a bit harder to find snake shops and my mum wasn't sure about what the neighbours would think!

I can top that snakemanone . . .

I got my first snake this summer - a month before my 46th birthday!

(I, too, am a VERY young 46  )

I could win the geriatric prize

I got my first snake in September 1997. I was a very young 50 year old teenager at the time.
Now at age 55, I have 2 adult corns and 5 of their hatchlings.

I was 6 or 7...

when I got my first reptile pet, a box turtle. I kept it in a cardboard box for a couple of days. However, having grown up in the woods near the Tennessee River, I was always carrying something around--a jar full of frog's eggs, a lizard on the end of a string, a snake (corns or rattlers). I used to skin road kill snakes and wrap their skins around the handle-bars and seat support of my bike.

All that being said, I didn't buy my very first Corn Snake to keep and raise as a pet until 28 July 2000, when I bought one for my son. That would make me 48 then. It's been down hill from there--snake, after snake, after snake. Will it ever stop?

oldies

and here was i thinking i was the old wrinkly on this site.....

............................................STEVE:D :D

i got my first snake when i was 11 but that didn't really count for me cuz they were wild caught garter snakes and you couldn't hold them and i had them for a week then let them go and caught more. but for corn snakes i got mine when i was 15 and i'm 15 right now, I LOVE MY CORN and i just talked my mom into letting me get another one a few days ago, i just don't know which one i wanna get. sorry for the long reply i was just filling ya in.

I was 14 and now I am 15 :)
I kinda wish I'd discovered them earlier, but I doubt I would've been able to care for them properly if I were younger.
Oh well, I'm soooo happy with my three cutesey wootsey babies now which is what really matters :D

got her about a month ago

I'm 17 --the usual -- had to convince the parents. Only thing that woried me about getting her is when i go off to university--- residences don't like pets very much. fortunately i have a youger bro who will take care of her while i am in first year so i don't have to worry about it. i just have to move out second year. which is not a problem
0.1 caramel het butter and possibly het motley

i think i was 4 ! , i ask my mum for some garter snakes and she bought them (i get the feeling she wanted them too:), and it spiraled outta control from there................until i started to kepp corns and ther so nice i gave up all the other reptiles just to keep them :) , so i woudl guess i have been keeping corns for about 8 years and i reckon i have hatched about 500 eggs ...........i am alos sure i have bought some off my own hatchlings back as adults lol - england is just such a small place :)

I was 33...

I bought a cal king for my daughter in Feb 2002. The following month I bought one for myself. And as Gregg said, "It's been down hill from there--snake, after snake, after snake." Of course, I think it's been an uphill ride mostly:D I really like corns, so that's what I mostly have. I have the 2 cal kings, 1 Honduran milk, and 1 Pueblan milk, too.

I was 31 when I got my first snake last year. Actually it is my daughters. She begged and begged me to get her one and I held it over her head for at least a month. That was the best behaved she ever was. I did't tell her that I always wanted one myself and had been planning buying one anyway.;)

I was around 6-7 when I got my frist snake. It was a wc gravid garter. It did lay and the hactchlings did actually pop out. But after a few weeks of the hatchlings poping out, all of the babies died. Then soon the mother died too.....I think that it was due to my lack of knowledge in taking care of them....and stress was a big problem....I almost handled them everyday.....lol....ouch....

But for the first corn snake...I was about 14 or so when I got my frist corn....

I was the ripe old age of....

I got my 1st snake when I was 18 and I'm now 19 and it was a beautiful normal corn! If I had known that snakes were so much easier to care for and equally as enjoyable as the mid-to-large sized lizards I like I would have gotten one as my very 1st reptile! or at least before 6 months ago.
