Cornsnake Cage Setup

Spitfire

Snakeless
Hey I have a female corn that's a month old and I need some tips on how to setup the cage. I have a 20 gallon fish tank and I'm gonna go buy some supplies that I was told to buy including: a canopy, day and night bulb, thermometer, water bowl, and hide. Could anyone can tell me if this is the right equipment and how to set up the cage then? Thanks.:)

About all you "need" is a bowl, hide, a substrate, an Under Tank Heater (UTH) and a thermometer. Corns don't need lights or a canopy (???). You will also need to get a top designed for reptile use and not an aquarium hood. (these are made of wire mesh and use clips to hold the lid in place to prevent an escape

If you really want to go the extra mile, get a temperature control device to regulate the temps.

Even though your tank is a 20, when your snake gets full-sized, you might need to go to a 20 gal. with lower sides, which gives more floor area. A 20 gal. fish tank has higher sides than reptile vivs do, and so they have end up with a smaller area to crawl in.

id recomend a dimmer thermostat for your light, get em on ebay if you cant find any1 selling them second hand. :D
