Cornsnake Shipping-Questions

When sending a cornsnake by mail, what are the general concerns?
I'm only asking since I'm probably going to have one shipped to me and I was wondering how far you would (could) send a juvenile by mail?

I'd rather pay a bit more for the shipping and make sure the snake is ok than the alternative.

I wouldn't like to live in a box myself and I have the feeling my future pet snake might not like it that much either...

Well, a lot of people here have experience in that and say it doesn't harm the snake.

Yet, it's by *mail*. Mine get's agitated when i handle him. How must it be for the snake when it's shipped in a box? it might not kill the snake but it's no picknick either. If you have the change i'd say go pick him up, or buy closer to home.

Depends who you're buying from and how experienced the dealer is. Reputable people like Rich Z, Kathy Love etc will be well able to provide the best possible shipping conditions for the animal. And don't forget, this won't be via normal domestic mail (illegal) but via a reputable carrier experienced in handling live animal shipments.

I agree that any kind of movement is bound to be stressful for an animal (one of mine went off his food for seven months when I moved him three miles!). However, if they are healthy when they leave the dealer, packed in optimum conditions and couriered with care, then they should recover in a matter of days.

Shipping snakes

I've received dozens of snakes that were shipped. Never noticed anything that causes a concern. Given the nature of this hobby within the U.S., shipping is necessary. If you limit yourself to purchases from local breeders, your selection may be non-existant.

Thanx for the replies everybody!

Hmm...there aren't that many petstores where I live so when I buy my first corn I have the choice of either sending for it or making a two day round trip journey to Sweden to go get it. (I live in Finland.)

Right now I'm opting for the jouney...
Somehow I want to make sure that the little guy will have as nice a trip as possible.

I'm still going to check what kind of shipping options there are though. Seing as there aren't that many snakes here to begin with I would gather that the shipping might actually be more expensive than going there myself...

More research is needed. :)
