LOL, I don't know about the "making girls look cute" deal. I have had more male attention with having and owning snakes than I ever got actively searching for love. Go figure.
I think men look for gals who don't fit the storybook conception of femininity. Must have been how I found my husband, I enjoy more "guy" things than "girl" things. Sure I like to shop..but for shoes, heck no..lets go truck shopping! And no piddly 4-cyl S-10, no boy...think big, diesel 4x4. *rawr* And the new Spike TV (formerly TNN)? Hah, not the only network for guys..I watch it more than anything else. Gotta love that Star Trek: TNG.
Anyway, I never really hated snakes growing up. I lived in the country and saw the role firsthand that a snake plays in nature. I never hurt a snake if I found it, unless I saw one crawling across the garage floor with a lump after I found my gerbil cage empty of its rodent resident. My mom isn't snake phobic, she just flat out hates them. Luckily that never passed on to me, even then. When I saw her whacking at something in the yard with a shovel, I knew it must be a mole or a snake. Thankfully she couldn't hit the side of a barn from 12" away, and most times I rescued the offending animal and released it back into the forest. Now if she sees a snake, she'll poke at it with a stick to get it to move on from the area of the garden she's working in. So I think I've made some small progress. =)
People hate one thing or another, usually for uneducated reasons. Its best to just accept it and try and change that in some small way, than to continually worry about it however.
