Back from the dead
:realhot: :realhot: I am so annoyed. First off, it's sad that so many people hate snakes without knowing anything about them! The worst line, which drives me totally nuts, is that snakes are slimy - what is that all about? Snakes are dry, not slimy! They aren't frogs, or geckos, or w/e else is slimy! I actually heard somebody say that next to Hitler, snakes were the worst animal ever. W H A T??? What is up with all these snake haters? Snake are one of the coolest animals on the planet... Why can't they see that? FED UP WITH CLUELESS SNAKEBASHERS!!! Are you?

I have to admit...

I used to be one of those people who didn't like sankes, but I realized that it wasn't that i didn't like them it was that i was IGNORANT!!!! once I read about them i found out they are really neat! I think people need to edgucated before they claim to HATE something!

ps.

just wanted to add that I have nothing against people who are phobic of snakes.. that's understandable... it's the clueless idiots who don't know anything but just hate snakes for the hell of it, or girls who thinks it makes them look cute - yick.

LOL, I don't know about the "making girls look cute" deal. I have had more male attention with having and owning snakes than I ever got actively searching for love. Go figure.

I think men look for gals who don't fit the storybook conception of femininity. Must have been how I found my husband, I enjoy more "guy" things than "girl" things. Sure I like to shop..but for shoes, heck no..lets go truck shopping! And no piddly 4-cyl S-10, no boy...think big, diesel 4x4. *rawr* And the new Spike TV (formerly TNN)? Hah, not the only network for guys..I watch it more than anything else. Gotta love that Star Trek: TNG. ;)

Anyway, I never really hated snakes growing up. I lived in the country and saw the role firsthand that a snake plays in nature. I never hurt a snake if I found it, unless I saw one crawling across the garage floor with a lump after I found my gerbil cage empty of its rodent resident. My mom isn't snake phobic, she just flat out hates them. Luckily that never passed on to me, even then. When I saw her whacking at something in the yard with a shovel, I knew it must be a mole or a snake. Thankfully she couldn't hit the side of a barn from 12" away, and most times I rescued the offending animal and released it back into the forest. Now if she sees a snake, she'll poke at it with a stick to get it to move on from the area of the garden she's working in. So I think I've made some small progress. =)

People hate one thing or another, usually for uneducated reasons. Its best to just accept it and try and change that in some small way, than to continually worry about it however.

hmph

either way, wish there was some way to get the uneducated people to read up on something and actually understand it... there would probably be less wars, lass hate crimes, and not to mention a whole lot more snake owners!

GECKOS ARE NOT SLIMY EITHER !!! sorry to bust your chops ,but your complaning about people getting snakes all wrong and in the same breath making the same incorect claim about geckos.

Am I thinking of newts? Or something else... sorry... I don't know much about those guys, but at least i don't hate them! Thanx for giving me a clue, now if only everybody had one?

amphibians would fall into your category of slimy

i.e. frogs, toads, salamanders, newts etc..

geckos are lizards hence reptiles, and are certainly not slimy, although some do have exceedingly delicate skins that are torn very easily

I'm lucky in that my mom liked all the animals, including lizards that I wanted. She just never let me have a snake. Sooooo, I waited until now and got one. When my parents came to visit, they both thought she was great. I do have friends that are absolutely phobic about snakes, and can't even look at a picture of one! Of course, I know people who don't hate snakes, but react like they do when you talk rattle snakes or something. My friend has lots of those, and they are just as fascinating as any of the non-poison species. You just have to be a lot more cautious of them. I think if more people were able to be around snakes, they wouldn't freak out so much.

thanx for the info

Then I have decided the only solution is for all of us to go out and buy more snakes to show the masses - and sell to them!!! Hurry, everyone, hurry! LOL

I'm trying, I'm trying! I just don't have the room for another tank, or twelve......tiny house! Rats!!

hey be hapy u are in a house i have 1 50 gal tank for my bearded and a 20 gal long for my corn. thats in a 1 bed room appartment i dont have room for any more.

Taceas

I always thought I would marry a girl like you but I married a city girl who dislikes snakes! Go figure. She's tolerant of them now but I did have to sell my two boa constrictors in order to get married 20 years ago.
I also keep honeybees and the reaction to them is similar to most people's reaction to snakes.
Your husband is a lucky man!!

Heh, love is blind, ain't it? ;)

We each have our vices, mine is snakes and my husbands happens to be his olive green 1979 Camaro. :D

My neighbor when I was growing up had honeybees as well, and I was pretty interested in them, who couldn't be interested in sweets? =P

Fortunately, my husband and I share very similar likes, and dislikes. We both love snakes, although my love for them is a bit stronger. I even adore the Rattlesnakes that my friend brings over for the snake avoidance clinics we put on. I can't wait until I get a bigger house! I'm going to have one whole room that's just for the snakes. :)

This is from earlier when ya'll were still talking about snake haters. It is REALLY annoying. I have to agree. There's this one girl in my school who just somehow found out that I have a snake and every time she walks by me, she just says "mouse killer." Big deal, but she's the cow killer. And besides, it's the cycle of life. I've tried to explain it a jillion times but she still doesn't get it. I can't wait to bring it to science class in spring when we'er studying reptiles. Lol.

Assisted huh? Sounds like Dr Kevorkian or something :) Nothing you can do about people like that. There's no explaining to folks that don't want to know. I get the same reaction when people find out I hunt. They'll eat meat from the market, they just don't want to know how it got there. At least I appreciate the animal giving it's life for my meal. It's a lot more honest.
