Repair or replace?
It's at least 6.5 years old. (Average lifespan is 14 years). But I bought it used, so who knows. Could be a year or three older.
Relatively simple problem- the freezer is fine, the refrigerator is 40F at the bottom, 65ish at the top. It went through a week or two of "hummmm CLICK" which I expect in hindsight was the switch for the compressor motor not working, but it has now given up. Is the motor itself ok? I don't know how to tell.
So they say if the cost of a repair is more than half the replacement cost (roughly $900 since I have to buy a smallish one to fit in the space) then buy a new one.
I'd have to pay someone to come out, diagnose it and repair it at $100/hour not counting parts. I'd guess $200-$400. But that's just a guess.
The icemaker died several months ago, causing a huge flood.
I can't decide, but the obvious less-hassle cure is just buy a new one.
This brand or different? If it has only lived half its expected lifetime, maybe I should try something different. But I really liked this Frigedaire while it lasted.
Sears has free delivery and take away right now.
Is this my punishment for buying two snakes worth the price of a new fridge???
