Hello,
Like many like people my gf is not a fan of frozen mice in the freezer, I heard about "Snake Sauages" - Sauages for snakes" so i did a google search read some forums but what i could not find any information about DICK VAN PATTEN'S brand of reptile sauages which are apperantly made out of Beef ?.

I was hopeing someone might know a bit more about his product or atleast know where i can get reviews from people who actually use it not paid for by his website.

Thanks for your time

PS - This question is related to corn snakes, i have a 8month old albino male who is my primary consumer of pinkie mice atm

I doubt that I'll ever feed my snakes anything other than whole prey. The problem that often occurs with any commercial diet is that your pet may not necessarily get all of the nutrients that it needs. Never tried the sausages but have you tried keeping the mice in a solid colored container that you can't see through? That might help some.

The issue ios my gf can not bring herself to feed him when i am away which happens from time to time so atm i ha ve a friend come over and do it. my gf would be willing to feed sausages but i want to know more about them before changing his diet. any way thanks for the reply :)

Kathy Love does talk about the snake sausages in her book... It might be worth it to ask her... She might know where to get them and give you her opinion on them...

Sorry but snake sausage is no longer available from T-Rex . It is only available to zoological facilities from Nature Products.

where in Canada are you? I saw a corn snake yesterday in a pet store, and listed as its diet was snake sausage, so that pet store chain may carry it

Another thread here. ( Have you seen it all? Try this) has link to Natural balance sausage. It shows a snake eating sausage. I inguired at site. They did give me a breakdown of produts. They are not available for sale to public either. If you find something else let us all know.

I agree with Katie here. To many things can go wrong, Remember the dog and Cat deaths due to bad food. I would rather have bad mice that buying a whole batch of bad food this way.

Here are the ingredients for the Sausage. When do Snakes eat Flaxseed in the wild?

Beef, Beef Hearts, Beet Pulp, Tricalcium Phosphate, Ground Flaxseed Meal, Sodium Chloride, Collagen, Choline Chloride, Taurine, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2 Polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), Vitamin A and D-3 Supplement, Niacin, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Biotin), Minerals (Iron Sulfate, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Sulfate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite.

This sausage from VanPatten is not available to the public. I would not feed it to my snakes. I feed my snakes mice that I raise. I think it would be bad to change their diet. Product by T-Rex was made of chicken, which was more natural. It is no longer available.

How long are you gone for at a time?

It should be fine for the snake to miss a meal while you for up to a week or so. My snakes are on fuzzies and have gone without food for 2 weeks several times already (twice for vacations, a couple times by their own choice).

I feel safer not feeding or having them fed while I am gone than having someone else feed them. A lot of the things that can go wrong in snake care are tied to feeding time, I prefer to let them wait till I get back. One of the nice things about snakes is that they don't need to eat every day. As long as you have someone check temps and refill water the snake should be fine.
