difference between opal and blizzard

I'm sure it is a genetic difference, but what is the difference between a blizzard and an opal? I keep seeing pictures of both in the photo gallery, and they usually look the same to me.

A blizzard is homozygous for amel and charcoal. Ideally, they are mostly pure white.

An opal is homozygous for amel and lavender. These can actually be quite colorful, especially as juveniles. They tend to lose some of their color as adults.

I don't have any blizzards, but here is my female opal as a juvenile and an adult.

Yep, it's genetic. A blizzard is a charcoal-amel, and an opal is a lavender-amel. Blizzards can range from pure white to white with faint yellow outlining to the pattern. Juveniles can be solid pinkish. Opals can range from nearly pure white to a coral-pink with cream-orange pattern. Like most morphs there is huge variation within both blizzards and opals. But you're right; they can look a lot alike. Hope this helps. :)
