I recently got my baby corn last weekend and the petstore told me they hadnt fed it in 2 weeks. They said to feed right away. So I took him home and set him up then i went out to get some pinkies because the store I got it from had no pinkies. I went to another store and they gave me a pinkie which I thought was too big but they assured me it wasnt. When I got home it still looked really big to me for the snake but I gave it to him anyways. He striked and killed the pinkie right away but when he first tried to start swolling it, it looked like he was struggling getting his jaws around it he stopped. But about 20 minutes later he was trying again, and he got it down. The next day I was checking on him and it almost looked like his stomach was bruised where the "pinkie lump" was. I read somewhere that it should take 24-48 hours for the lump to go away. But tuesday it had gone down alot but you can still tell there was a little bit of a lump there and that was over 48 hours. My question is it ok that the lump is there so long and do you think that little bruise like thing is there because he is white and Im just kind of seeing through him. Sorry for being long winded but thx in advance

If he is white, it could indeed be that you can just see the pinkie inside him. I certainly haven't heard of bruising as a result of feeding before. If it was too big, it is likely that he will regurgitate. The only advice I can give is not to handle AT ALL until the lump has completely disappeared. I really hope he doesn't regurge.

You are correct, it should only take about 48 hours before the lump should disappear, although I have heard some people saying it lasts a little longer with no ill effects.

We would normally advise you let the snake settle in for a week before feeding but this little one was obviously starving so you made a good call by offering the pinkie - I just hope it wasn't too big.

If he does regurge, or you have any other problems/worries, post them here and we'll do our best to help. Welcome to the forum by the way :)

P.S. Just a thought - could the 'bruise' be internal organs? (probably not if you didn't notice it before you fed him?).

And the guideline for food items is no larger than 1.5x the snake's bodily girth. Good luck!

i just bought a couple day old frozen pinkies which are much smaller so ill try those next feed. I just looked up the munson plan and im gonna try and follow that

The whole size of the meal thing takes a bit of getting used to. I would worry when I fed my boy and would check out the mouse almost obsessively.

Congratulations on your new baby. You'll feel much more comfortable when you next feed him with the smaller pinkie. Hope he goes well.

ok well once I got home and looked at him again, it looked like I might have been looking at organs and possibly being over concerned about the bruised part. The lump looks as if it went down though. I took some pictures but I lost my digital camera and have to use my phone to take pics, so sorry for the poor quality but here he is (i think its a he)

Yes, you have a cute little snow corn. It's hard to tell ,but it looks like it has a nice motley pattern. Congratulations.
