Dilemma

Not really, just wondered what anyone else would do.
Just stumbled onto a deal I couldn't pass up. 2- 55gal tanks, stand and lights for $100. Trying to decide whether to divide them and house 4 snakes, or "showcase" 2 of my larger corns. :shrugs:

Thats a Tough one??

Personally I would divide them, because an adult corn can live in a 30 gallon tank for its whole life so I would end up dividing them and housing 4 smaller corns, I think it will look more impressive and give them a grate home.

I would divide

I have a couple of 55 gallon tanks I divided and they work quite well.
Here is one

the other one

Split them and use them as specimen displays for your collection of "others". :)

Yeah Gary, I was thinkin maybe I should put the King's in there, I could free up 3 20l tanks. Thanks for the idea.

Wow, thanks for posting those pics. They look great. I've got a couple of those same hides with the greenery at the top, snakes love em!
Question, how is the divider mounted. Is it just a tightly fit piece free standing? I was thinking of a board mounted to a piece of 1x4 which would be hidden by the substrate. Thanks Jimmy.
PS, How did you make those tops? I've already spent some of my snake money on these tanks, heck, A couple more bucks I could have bought Odin!

hey Mike

The divider is just a tight fitting piece I cut, but there is a secret.
In 55 gallon tanks there is a plastic piece in the middle of the tank that helps keep the tank from swelling in the center when filled with water.
I drilled two holes through this piece down into the divider and added two screws to help keep it secure. One thing though. I had to notch the top of the divider because there is a piece in the dead center of the plastic piece that protrudes downward.
If you look at a 55 gallon tank you will see what I mean.
The lids are plywood cut to , I think, 13" x 24" (half the tank)
I cut out a round hole for the dome light and then stapled nylon screen to keep the snakes from escaping. I drilled several rows of holes on each side of the lid for circulation.
Add handles for easy lifting.
To make the lids secure I add strips of board to the bottom of the lid. These are cut to the same dimension as the inside of the aquarium ( 12 1/2" I think)
These are fastened to the underside of the lid approximately 3/4 of an inch from each end. They need to be a tight fit. When you place the lid down on the aquarium it needs to be a fairly tight fit.
I have never had a snake escape from a tank with these lids.
Not very technical but I use bent nails to hold the dome light in place.
You will see the nails in one of the pics. I just place the dome light in position and turn the nails towards the dome and they hold perfectly.

Yeah, I know what you're talkin about, I've been cleaning these tanks all day. Thanks for filling me in. Can't believe I didn't think of securing the board that way.
