My cornsnake that i bought about a month ago it seems is discoloring. It has already shed the 1st week that i got it and it has just rejected his 1st mouse that i have seen. His eyes have turned purple an and his coloring which is ame l has faded alot. Send me some responses fast thanks.

Hmmm......

Most corns shed near the end of the month. Their eyes get all milky and their skin fades and then a few days later it sheds.
Also within this period they will reject food.

I'd bet that by say between now and next thursday your snake will shed. Raise the humidity with a spray bottle to help out the process.

they shed every time they out grow there skin so if u feed them a lot they will shed more often and vise versa

My little ones...

shed about every month. It does depend on how much they are fed and fast they grow. It's OK, though, if it's just been a month since yours shed. It's nothing to worry about.

Yep, every 4 weeks almost to the day. THis is very common for young corns.

i`ve had my yearling for 6 months and its shed twice... every ten weeks or so .... shich means its probably about ready for another BUT i seem to get no warning.. none of the blue phase nor paling of the colours.. plus it ate a mouse the day of its shed last time :p

That often happens with snows...

They are so light that it is hard to tell when they are in blue phase. But, believe me, they DO go through one. :D

There is one problem though my corn isnt a young one. I dont know the age but i know its not a year or two its almost 3 1/2 feet long. and i feed him once every friday. He lives in a 25 gallon viv so there is no space problem.

Also the tempature and humidity could that have an effect on him. I use a heat lamp and a medium size water bowl that half of his body can go in that ive seen. thanks

i just realized that my snake has a like a purplish almost like a bruise on the top of his eye it is swollen sort of his other eye is fine though could this mean that a mouse could have bit him or scratched him

Ok then...

Do you have a pic? or can you get a pic? It'd help a lot.
Besides that, if you are this concerned about your snake then take it to the vet. At least there the snake can be fixed up if anything is found to be wrong with it.

Oh, and were you feeding live food? you said something about a mouse scratching his eye?

Keep us updated!!!

Yes i feed him live mice he ignores dead ones. Also he shed about 2 hours ago and he is looking better his skin has come back to his original color but it seems that he still has some loose like skin covering his eye. Im sorry i cant get a pic i'll try do describe it the best i can. anyways it seems kind of torn out around his eye its bear. Its like eating just the outside of a pie and leaving the middle alone. I am going to a vet on Wed. so thanks for all the info. Send me more info before then. Just in case he looks better or if i can fix it some how.

Thanks alot everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tip for the day.

Always look at the shed before tossing it, hanging it above the bed, or what ever it is that you do with it.

Check these two things:
1) Look to see that both eye caps shed with the rest of the skin.
2) Check that the tail tip is completely off as well.

Although I have never had an eye problem during shed, I have found a tail tip or two that didn't come off. This allows you to take preventative steps and not wait for the problem to manifest itself later.

Be careful ofcourse...

When feeding live food. Stunned or on the verge of death mice are fine but well, fully healthy is a bitch lol
I mean it's not pokemon here. The mouse and the snake are actually in a life or death situation ;) Pikachu ain't got nuttin' on a cornsnake lol

Anyway, tell us what the vet said! All info is helpful info lol :D

ALSO

feeding live is FINE, but when you get your mice, choose smaller mice as they arent as strong and the snake can handle it better (from my experience) and has less chance of being injured.

as far as the eye cap not coming off at the last shed, it should be ok as long as it comes off during the next shed. the next time he goes 'blue' mist the cage a couple times a day to keep up the humidity. this helps the shedding process and should help the eye cap to come off.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
:D

Thanks alot guys you saved me alot of money the eye cap actually came of today. so i didnt have to go but as for as the torn of skin around his eye i called the doctor and he said that it usually will heal in a few more days. Thanks guys now maybe with the money that i saved i can bye another corn!

thanks
