Do cornsnakes eat each other?

Hello everyone,

for about 6 years I've got my 2 cornsnakes. I've never had any problems with them. They never had any troubles eating or sheding. I never take them out of the cage. Normaly I feed them once a week but there are moments I only feed them one in 2 weeks.

Today I wanted to feed them. And there is only one snake anymore. I don't think it had escaped. Is it possible that the other ate it?

Yes, they can eat each other. It isn't common, but the younger they are, the greater the risk.

However, unless the remaining Corn has doubled in size, then either the other one has escaped, or it's still hiding somewhere in the tank or the fittings (hides, substrate etc).

Never underestimate their ability to stay hidden. I "lost" one once and it was in the tank all along. I'd emptied the tank completely - twice - looking for it. It was hiding by wedging itself right at the top of a hide, and not coming out when I picked the hide up and moved it around.

Wow, I have the excat same logs that Nanci had, and I had the very similar problem. Took me 3 days trying to find her, I knew she didn't escape because I have her in critter cage.

I cross my fingers

It are 2 adult snakes, so it' s a bit harder for them to hide. They were the same size (about 1.20 m). But I cross my fingers

Did you look through everything in cage?
Inside the hides, inside the small holes where you can't see.
Anything can happen, hope you can find him.

With snakes that size, it is more likely an escape.

But I am another one that lost" my snake for three days...and it never left the viv. I found him curled up inside a skull I had in there. I ended up having to break the skull into pieces to get him out...

Never underestimate their ability to hide AND escape. If there is a way, they WILL find it.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure it's an escape also. Better find out how, otherwise you'll lose the other one the same way.

How long had they been in that particular tank?

Could you take pictures of the tank? If we see it we may be able to help more.

Also if you do find your snake you should buy a separate tank for it, corns should not be housed together. I housed mine together for 5 or more years with no problems(that I saw) but this year I started seeing problems such as breeding and aggression.

You also mentioned you only feed them in their tank. You need to take them out of the tank and separate from each other.

More experienced keepers can correct me if I'm wrong about anything and also if they are 6 years old shouldn't they be eating a mouse every week rather then every 2 weeks?

As for co-habbing at six years old??? As for feeding it depends on the weight but my 03' only gets fed every 2-3 weeks, same with my 04' female.

Ok thanks, I feed mine about every 7 days that's why I asked. I've always heard to feed them every 7 days, guess I'll research that a bit.
