As I mentioned just a few days ago....when someone (generally, a n00b) votes in a poll, the thread is bumped, even if no post was made.

And as I mentioned in the same post....I hope Rich can get a web monkey to take care of this.

jazz

What's a web monkey? Web-Monkey:Grease-Monkey as Website:Car?

I'm often tempted to lock old polls when I see them come up, but I can never think of a better reason than that they are annoying. Those newb voices must be heard! ;)

Definitely not me then. I thought PHP was that stuff they warned you about in school that would make you fight cops and gnaw your own arm off. :grin01:

Oh come on now dear... Don't you think it's cool that we can say we own nearly everything on that list? Or have owned nearly everything on that list at one point in time???

It amazes me that people are still voting in this limited, useless poll.

Here's a poll for you:

What's your favorite food?

A. Yams.

B. Gefilte fish.

How valuable would this poll be? What would the data tell you? It's bleepin' ridiculous-- about as bleepin' ridiculous as THIS thread's poll! :angry01:

(Maybe I'm a little cranky today...)

Mmmm.... Yum! Gefilte fish cassarole with yams. Crushed Ritz and and melted cheese on top. There's a pile of good eats right there, bud-day!

:puke02:

I presume polls can't be removed like spam or offensive threads? Would be useful if at least the original date can be added to the thread name somehow.

Hah! Sure, polls CAN be removed, but I'm reluctant to do so solely on the basis that they annoy me. And no, there's no easy way to change thread titles...

Perhaps a time limit on how long polls can run would be a good idea.
Well, I don't know what the technical feasiblity of this option is, but I doubt that it will ever be a priority for Rich. In the meantime, maybe people can just look at the dates and decide for themselves just how important it is for their opinions to be tallied along with members who haven't been here since Nixon was in the White House. Maybe I'm just a bit curmudgeonly when it comes to polls here. 95% of the ones I've seen here have no value whatsoever (imo). Fun? Maybe to some. Value? Zip.

I completely agree, but the problem is that the original date isn't visible from the forum list, only the date of the most recent activity. Agree that it won't be a high priority, so the best solution is the tried and true back button. Never fails.

Oops, i voted. I didn't realise how old this thread was, i just came straight in and voted. :dunce:

Can't the poll be closed? As you'd close a thread when needs be? I mean, personally, it doesn't really bother me too terribly much. Though some of them can get annoying - especially when the poll is completely redundant or time sensitive.
