Does growth rate affect adult size?

noe

Do power fed snakes ultimately end up bigger or do they just get to their "adult" size faster? Note that I have no intention of power feeding; I'm just curious as to whether growth rate affects the animal's final size. Would a snake fed a comparatively restricted diet eventually catch up in size to those with normal feeding schedules?

Good question noe!

Yeah, I've wondered that too since I really think my Willow was underfed before I bought her, and was older than she looked. The pet shop said she was "probably under 6 mos." Since I've had her she has grown a lot and I'm just feeding her a normal amount.

I don't think that power feeding will affect the final size. I've done very little power feeding myself, only on the really small hatchlings or late starters to get them to "catch up" to the other hatchlings. After that, they go back to a once a week schedule. I've had several smaller snakes that didn't really grow as fast as the rest, and a few that just seemed to grow more rapidly, but in the end, they all reached about the same size. And of coarse, there are the few that will tend to be just larger or smaller than the average corn, no matter what.

Think about it this way. If you were power feed, would you grow any taller than you would have normally. Now you would probably weigh more but your hieght would be the same. And consequently your health would not be as good as a normal eater.
