Does it hurt when you get bit?

LOL...yes, they are messing with you. Kinda' like freshman hazing, I guess.

Tho, I *am* wondering why you would think that your little baby will eventually bite you? You planning to hand feed it when it's older or something?
Normally, a "pet" corn that gets handled quite a bit (talking in comparison to a breeder, mynd you) isn't predisposed to biting...takes some agitation, if you know what I mean. (Or, say, you forget to wash the smell of rodent off of your hand before trying to pick up a very hungry snake!)

I've grown up with hearing my family saying never trust a snake they will bite you.. And she did draw bak on me but I understand she is still little and scared. I've never been bitten by a snake yet. Lets hope if I am its my fault.. I want a calm "nice" snake..

Snakes are one of the easiest animals in the world to "read". Trust me you'll know when she's serious about biting you before she does.

If you want a nice snake, handle them often (except after feeding.) I don't think I've actually ever been bitten by one of my corns. My king and my rosy boa have tagged me pretty frequently, but even those aren't all that painful. The rosy seems to have an "after bite" type of stinging sensation, but nothing I can't deal with with a touch of morphine or demerol.

Gotta' love families like that! (Hubby's is the same way...snakes are the "devil" incarnate!)

Hatchling/young corns are always more skittish & feisty than older ones. I had a little male sunglow hatch out last year that did nothing but hiss & strike at me for the first few months. Then, one day, it was like a little switch went off somewhere and he was as calm as could be! I still have him...getting bigger...and he's actually one of them easier to handle babies that I have left from last year. (Probably because I handled him a bit more to get him over it.)

If she pulled back on you, it's likely that you may have somehow startled her (even passing your hand over them will startle them because of the big shadow), but if you move slowly, more at her level...maybe even let her "sniff" you (provided your hands are clean)...& then pick her up & handle her for awhile....you'll find that she'll calm down very quickly and should be no problem at all in just a couple short weeks. If you're concerned that she'll bite you, then just mentally "prepare" yourself to get bit & pick her up anyway. If you prepare yourself first, you're less likely to JUMP out of your skin if it does happen.

Hope that helps!

And remember if they don't have rattles they are cobras. They will all hurt you, if they don't bite you they will cause you to hurt yourself trying to get away from them.

I know im going to sooner or later i just want to know if it hurts when they get older. I dont even care if she does now.. Shes too tiny for me to really care..
And as soon as i can hold her ill post some pics..
I need to know for sure what she is anyway.. :p

It depends on who's doing the biting. I mean, it used to hurt when I was younger, and more tender, but now that I'm old and swarthy, with leathery skin from overdosing on the sunbathing thing, it doesn't bother me so much.

I don't think I've ever had a snake that has hung on while biting. Usually they just bounce off your hand or finger really fast once they realize it's you and not a tasty mouse (though I do have one female that will bite me 3 times in 10 seconds if I don't approach her sideways, as opposed to top down). It feels like a pinprick (or a few) but it's less that 1 sec. of pain. Easy to laugh off.

I'm guessing you've never searched "bite club?" ;)

They can and will hang on, but even then it's not that painful at all. Here's a shot of my rough and tumble king biting me as yearling....

Nope...I've been wrapped like that before but the snake wasn't biting me (my hand was holding the thawed snack).

SWMBO was feeding one of the Boas and dropped the rat. She reached in to pick it up just as the snake struck. It bit her on the hand and coiled all the way up her arm to her shoulder. It took fifteen minutes to get it off. I didn't think it hurt at all. I LMAO.

My Okeetee Sahara does that when she's trying to eat my fingers. It doesn't really hurt, just more of a pain in the butt to try to get her off. Usually a nice warm mouse does the trick. ;)

Lol. I usually just have to tickle the snake on the opposite side to the squeeze and they try to heave a coil at me. If they won't loosen up enough then I just find something smelly, like peppermint oil or melaluca fish meds and wave it around him/her.

But seriously, if you drop the rat/mouse let the snake pick it up, lmao. If snake looses interest and doesn't go for it, wave you other hand to distract it while going slowly for the rat with the other hand. I do that when I am not quite ready with a second mouse and the snake is looking to make a climb up and out of the tank after more food.

And Wade, you really shouldn't be biting people when they are trying to feed their snakes (your typo :roflmao:).

No prob.

Hey wade, do you know anyone that has tried getting baby corns to latch on to their ears (I saw a boy do that with anoles in a herp book). Somehow I imagine you'd know of such a thing has happened though I could be way off base.

Going to chime in here. When I had my ball python, it bite me twice. First time, I startled it and he struck. Second time, I had him in my out and he was wrapped around my wrist for a few minutes and I just happened to look down and he was latched on pretty good. Took me a few minutes to get him off but I didn't feel a thing either time. Hope that helps a bit.

I don't know anyone who has done that but I would make a nice ear ring. Why don't you post a pic for us.
