Dog attack

I wish people would judge the incidents on a per basis thing. Not judge all the dogs in the breed. because people like me.. that have a good well rounded dog.. could loose them to BSL.

I understand. It hurts and its scary to think you might lose your sweet pups.
But you have not yet been able to verbalize the fears of others who have a different view, and until that happens, there can't be a dialogue of true understanding.

Skeeeerey!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The kissy-lovey-smoochy-woochy-pit bull-poochy pics reminded me of these.
Yes, yes, yes, I know.....imperfect.

I think we should all be able to agree that there are good dogs and bad dogs no matter what breed! Just like there are good people and bad people no matter what race.

I went to look at the study cited by ComoxCorn and I have to say I have some very serious doubts about it.

Specifically, I'm talking about the part about "The Deadliest Dogs".

First is this statement: According to the Clifton study, pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes are responsible for 74% of attacks that were included in the study.

This implies there were attacks that were not included.

Clifton's opinions are as interesting as his statistics.

Well, you know what they say about opinions....

This is not by any means any sort of scientific study. You can make a study say anything you want.

Then we have: Compiled by the editor of ANIMAL PEOPLE from press accounts
since 1982, this table covers only attacks by dogs of clearly identified
breed type or ancestry, as designated by animal control officers or others
with evident expertise, who have been kept as pets.

I didn't look into it, but this sounds to me like a magazine editor compiled a list of attacks reported in the press?? And it only includes dogs of a clearly defined breed as designated by animal control officers. (See my previous statement that animal control officers are no experts on breed.)

Next, we have a reference to a Golden Lab. There is no such thing. And anyone with "evident expertise" would know that.

There are also very few small breeds listed. Most likely because no one reports these. But a Pomeranian killed a child. So much for small dogs don't do any harm.

There was a case of a Rottweiler crushing a 6-month old child in the family bed.
Boxer: Fatal attack on 3-week-old infant also involved a Rottweiler.
Another case was a 6-year-old girl who was caught and strangled by a pit bull's chain.

I think we need to ban stupid parents, personally. Children should never, ever, ever be left unattended with any dog.

Orca's wheren't here to be a Human Trick animal.. HUMANS Make them that way.. Dogs are Domesticated. When a Orca is Domesticated.. then I will take it back. When I see someone with a Big pool in there backyard..and house, take care of a orca.. I will take it back. But till then.. I dont see that as the same. Like the saying says.. When Pigs fly..

For heaven's sake, people.

Look at the markings.

Those are clearly marine pandas.

Y'all just got Rick-Rolled. After a fashion. :roflmao:

http://www.atts.org/statistics.html

Here is the Temperment tests they do on dogs. Look Up the APBT.. Staffordshire Terrier..and all those.. and compare to a Lab Or golden.. They are VERY Close in Comparison with the Golden..and Not far behind the lab..

Chi's Lower pass rate then the Pits, staffies..

hell even a Rat Terrier ranks lower..

Those are all the statistics I need. These show what percentile pass the Temperment tests.

Yup, shows what People Magazine will do to the ignorant.

All this being said....I think owners and lovers of pit bulls do the breed no favour by denying the breed's characteristics. They were bred to be dog aggressive, just as border collies were bred to herd and jack russells (pardon me, Parson Russells!) were bred to hunt vermin. And if you own such a breed, you have a great responsibility and need to be constantly vigilant.

While I agree that YES they where bred to be dog aggressive I want to point out that not ALL are. My friends russell was bred to hunt vermin but couldn't care LESS about any type of vermin. While MINE will hunt down and kill a rat in seconds flat and then PLAY with the body. There ARE pits who are dog aggressive and then there are those who are socialized properly that get along famously with other dogs, and even those who always get along with them no matter how under socialized they are.
