While this is not the place to either promote or attack any specific individuals, since you brought up Justin in this thread, I feel compelled to point out that while a few people do like Justin, he also has a highly questionable and negative reputation amongst the majority of hognose breeders as well as a recent BOI thread about his shady practices as a seller (
Link). He also shows great disrespect towards Rich (owner of this site and Fauna) while he continues to use Fauna (and other sites) for his own personal agenda towards the defamation of other hognose breeders and shameless self promotion. His practices over the last several years has been in pre-selling animals that he hasn't even hatched out and recently pre-selling animals at market crashing prices which hurts the majority of breeders and eventually floods the market with hognose snakes making them a disposable pet much like what has happened over the years with Corns and Balls. I started a thread on my thoughts about "Disposable pricing"
here (I hope the link isn't removed due to it being on an offending web site as I feel that the discussion is very important to a lot of people) which is closely linked to market crashing.
One thing you have to consider about the Extreme Red Albinos is that they are a line trait, meaning, the red is a totally separate polygenic trait and is
not part of the Albino gene. If you breed an Extreme Red Albino to a normal Albino, there is no guarantee whatsoever that you will produce any Extreme Red's in your F1 or even F2 clutches. Extreme Reds are a line bred trait meaning that they were produced from selective inbreeding over several generations in order to carry the red coloration over along with the albino gene. This is the reason why so many people try to sell Extreme Red's that don't look as good as Justin's and generally why you don't see too many people even producing or selling them. More than likely, the people that typically sell "Extreme Red Albinos" that hardly look like as good as Justin's bought some of their breeding stock from him but haven't been able to recreate the line bred trait because of the complexity of polygenic traits but they use the name anyways to signify that their line of hognose came from him. But just to make it fair, there
are other breeders that do actually produce beautiful red albinos other than Justin, Brad Chambers being one that comes immediately to mind.
While I never like to bash anybody, let alone a fellow hognose breeder, Justin has a very well known reputation in the hognose community and it's not a positive one. PM me and I will be more than happy to give you links to other sites that not only prove this but I will also redirect you to several reputable people in the hognose community that have more issues with him than I can shake a stick at.
Again, I apologize for this reply which has taken this thread way off topic but I feel that it's only appropriate that both sides should be heard since it was brought up.
