Driving through Canada with snakes

Jessica29

Crazy Alaskan
So I've asked for help on this subject before, an I can't seem to make up my mind whether it would be best to ship my snakes back to Alaska myself, or if I should take them in the truck with me when we drive. I'm currently in California, and will be driving through Canada to Alaska. Does anyone know anything about driving through Canada with snakes? Here is what I have.

16 corn snakes
5 ball pythons
2 blood pythons
1 Indonesian tree boa

Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you happen to check Provincial laws of the Canadian Province/Territories you will be going through?

I called the Canadian border patrol and U.S. customs and both sides said as long as none of them are an endangered species I should have any problem crossing through with them.

Ball pythons are CITES reptiles. You can't just cross with those. To even have them shipped to Canada requires CITES paperwork.

I agree with checking the individual provincial laws as even Ball Pythons are illegal to keep in one of our provinces and they don't accept ignorance to laws as an excuse, so checking into it would definitely be worth while :) Safe travels!

EDIT: Blood Pythons are illegal in at least one province as well.

I'll be driving through British Columbia and Yukon Territroy. How do I look up stuff on CITES? When I typed in ball python the only thing that came up was how many were wild harvested or ranched in what years.

I looked into the BC prohibited and restricted reptiles and I didn't see any of the snakes that I have on there. I couldn't find anything on the Yukon Territory though.

I think you may also want to check with Fish and Wildlife as they may require an inspection of the animals before crossing into Canada, I know when bringing animals in that you must make an appointment to meet the officers at a certain time at the border so that the animals can be inspected prior to come into Canada. It may be different as you are carrying on straight through but then they have no real guarantee that you won't be dropping them off somewhere along the way so it's worth checking into. I will see if I can get a number for you to call to check into that.
