Ducklings anyone?

My friend and I were surprised with the gift of two baby ducks a few days ago by her boyfriend and his friend. They went to live on a farm with lots of other ducklings yesterday, but I got a few pictures before they left and thought I'd share because most people here like baby animals. Enjoy!

The yellow duck is a Pekin duck, there the ones that are all white as adutls. The other is a Mallard, the ones with the green heads (males only), the females stay brown.


NIce post, we have 4 mallards we are raising to put on our 2 acre pond. When yours are released, be sure they have been accepted with the others and have a place to get away from land predators like racoons and foxes. On the water they will have to escape snapping turtles, they prey on ducklings often.

Cute yes, but little pooping machines. My friend wasn't too sad to see them go considering she lives in an apartment, lol.

I was told they went to a farm to live with a bunch of other little ducklings, and that mine was the only Peking of the bunch! He'll stick out like a little sore yellow thumb haha

I have been meaning to post about my ducks. I have 8 ducklings and 2 adults.
I have 2 black anconas, 3 blue swedish, 1 chocolate ancona and 2 whelsh harlequins.
Then the adults are male and female pekin ducks. We live on a 9 acre lake. Here are some pictures...

Do the Pekin ducks breed and succesfully nest on your pond?

I love ducks! When I was a kid, the neighbors had a WC mallard chick.
She grew up, and migrated. But every summer she came back, and nested,
right in our pond-free neighborhood! It was so cool.

Rochester has asked people to stop feeding the Canadian geese and has put up nesting deterrents around Silver Lake, they've become somewhat of a problem around here.

I've had geese, and know people who have geese. They can be people-oriented if you have one, from a baby.
In pairs, they are territorial. They'll chase and bite. Even car tires. They are good for home protection.
They are very messy. They graze grass. They appreciate a place to swim.

I wondered because around here we have Canadian geese that no longer migrate, they just live her permanently, and a few years ago white geese started living with them, and now we have these weird looking geese that look exactly what you would expect evil hybrid geese to look like.

Edit: So I wondered if anyone knew enough about geese to tell me if they were evil hybirds. LOL.

Nanci, I know what you mean about the chasing and biting. I saw three big baseball players (I assume) running near the college a few weeks ago and there were a couple geese in front of them. They all stopped running because the geese looked like they were going to attack when they got close, it was hilarious.
