Early snakes in VA

I have a few pics from the past two weekends. So far it's just been garters and watersnakes, which is normal for here. Maybe tomorrow I'll turn up something different.

Some morning T.s.sirtalis pics. All three within about a 45 minute time frame, when the sun got just high enough to shine through the brush.

I didn't have the good camera with me, so I had to move this water snake for a better pic. No bites!

I found this hanky-panky going on last week.

Here's a frog for you too, just because. Because it's hard to get this close without them jumping away.

awesome pics! We are going camping in 2 weeks in Hagerstown, MD and will be hiking part of the Appalachian Trail so we hope to catch some good photo opps.

Two weeks should be perfect. It's probably a little chilly there now, except in the afternoon.
Keep your feet quiet and your camera ready! Bring us some pics.

Where did you find the water snakes? i find that I can find them easily at the Rappahannock River. I haven't found any Garter Snakes yet but i find the frogs ALL the time :]

Nice finds. I've only seen a ringneck so far this year...but I haven't been out much.
I rarely find ringnecks! I saw one last year, at work.

The water snakes in these pics were less than 50' from the Occoquan Bay/Belmont Bay. There is a gravel/dirt trail next to the river but it's all wetlands, and sometimes the trail isn't there at high tide. The snakes weren't far from the trail. The plastic culvert that the pair were on comes from the river and goes under part of the trail.
I would guess that almost any water in VA with fish in it has Northern water snakes near.
The Rappahannock River is beautiful and has a lot more public access than the Occoquan River near me. Now you've got me thinking.
Have you been around the river much? Do you know where there are any pawpaw trees? Somewhere that I wouldn't step on anybody's toes taking pawpaws?

Nice snakes Alan! Thanks for sharing with us.
Great pics, Alan. Thanks.
Great pics Alan, happy herping!

Thank you all. Yes, Janine, happy.

Nice shots, Alan. I love the first pic of the water snake, his expression is so cute! I wish we had more snakes around here so I could share fun pictures...
