Eating but loosing weight

Thanks for the support guys. I am giving her Ceftazidime (also called Fortaz I think?) every 72 hours, for a total of 7 injections. She has three more shots to go. She really did look better after that first shot and feeding. She was hovering around 123-129 grams until she stopped eating over these past few days. She is 118 grams now. Also I forgot to mention this before but is it typical for their poop to be gray when on antibiotics? A couple of her poops were grayish after the last feeding, but the latest ones are back to the normal brown color.

I would think that with the lossof the good flora in the intestines that it would change the color of the poop, but since I wasn't feeding during treatments I can't tell you for sure.

I've heared about poop turning greyish when on antibiotics, so it's probably fine. I still wonder if your vet also did the coloring tests in the lab?

I too have a girl on the same med as you and her poos got out of whack which told me that her gut flora was being put out of balance and I did as Kathy Love had taught me in the past and mixed a very strong dose of NutriBac into a very small amount of water and gave it to her orally via syringe. In fact I mixed it so strongly that the NutirBac would not completely dissolve in the water to a clear state. With this, even though she is still on the antibiotics her poops have returned to normal.

This is the second snake that I have had on antibiotics and under vet advice continued to feed and have used the NutriBac in strong doses to assist the gut flora and it has worked wonders both times. So from my personal experience, I would use it while she is still on her meds, as it may not put her gut flora right back to perfect levels but it does help.

My prayers and thoughts go out to you and her!!

Hope yr snake will get better soon. Sorry to hear she is so sick..all my thoughts are with you and her. Keep us up to date with her condition. Good luck!

Sad news

Hi everyone. I have a sad update. My little snake has passed away. I left town a few days ago and my snake-sitter informed me that she died the first night I was gone. I am really upset about it as she was my favorite, but I want to thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear about that. Are you going to do a necropsy? If so, you'll need to refridgerate, not freeze the body. I know how hard it is to lose any of them.I've suffered multiple losses of animals this year and it's been heartbreaking. This is especially true when you don't know why. I'm sure you did what you could do, but she probably had something that was completely out of your hands.

I too am so sorry for your loss and feel your pain, as I have been through it both in the past and very recently. (((((BIG HUGS)))))

I'm so sorry. You did everything that you possibly could for her, so at least let that be a little comfort to you. She was much cared for.

Thanks everybody for being so kind. I did not get a necropsy done because I was out of town for that whole week after she died. My pet sitter took care of everything. I don't know for sure what eventually killed her. Maybe it was cancer after all. At any rate she is gone, but I want you all to know I appreciate all your advice and help. Thanks again.
