• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

Editing classifieds posts.....

Is there a time limit on how long you have to edit old posts? I went to update an "older" classifieds ad (i.e., to remove the animals that have been sold already) - and the edit button is gone. It is there in some of my newer posts within that same thread, though.

If there is a time limit, how long do I have to edit posts so I know how to plan for that in the future.

Thanks!
KJ

I think Brent's right on the time frame. Rich implemented a time limit here and on Fauna because certain individuals would delete all of their posts when they got their panties in a twist over how Rich handles things on his forums.

Ahhhh, 30 days. Now I now what to do. Thank y'all.

Rich> if you see this, is is possible that you could allow extended editing JUST on the classifieds sections (for the obvious reasons)? Possible and, well, acceptable to you?

Just asking. Thanks,
KJ

I wish I could, but vBulletin doesn't allow fine tuning the edit function to that extent. It's a global setting affecting the entire site.

It is unfortunate that some people will get uptight about something and then spitefully go in and edit out ALL of their messages leaving gaping holes in all the threads they have participated in. But fact of the matter it HAS happened, and I needed to take some steps to limit that sort of damage.

There are other pros and cons about allowing editing of classified ads anyway. One one hand you have the originator of the ad who wants to be able to edit the ad to make changes rather than creating an entire new one. But on the other hand you have buyers who don't want the originator to change or delete anything after the sale, just in case things go sour, so the evidence remains of what was offered. There really isn't any compromise that will satisfy both camps, unfortunately.

Sounds good, Rich. The limit is 30 days, though?
Thanks,
KJ

43200 minutes...... :) Sometimes the way vBulletin does things does make me scratch my head in wonderment...
